The Position

The Family Support Services (FSS) team has an exciting new opportunity to provide services to those experiencing homelessness. The Social Worker will work collaboratively with library patrons to connect them to public and private agencies and guide them in overcoming obstacles to obtaining safe housing and maintain self-sufficiency. Guided by the Protective Factors Framework, the Social worker will provide comprehensive trauma informed services to library patrons to support their overall wellbeing. Through advocacy, clinical case management and linkage to community resources, the Social Worker will identify risks, promote strengths, and equip patrons with the skills and knowledge needed to overcome sources of stress, strengthen resiliency, and obtain stable and safe housing.

Because working with those impacted by trauma can affect staff in various ways, FSA actively identifies and employs methods to support staff to embody a healthy and sustainable balance of care for both themselves and others.

 

Sample of Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Community collaborating, including but not limited to participating in social action community groups, engage in community coalitions, and coordinate social needs related events
  2. Provide and/or arrange crisis intervention services and mental health assessments
  3. Provide case management services
  4. Document all assessments, service activities, and service plans
  5. Complete needs assessment and provide referral and linkage to public, nonprofit, and private services
  6. Exhibit a working knowledge of community resources and provide appropriate referrals to support access to housing, social, educational, mental health, and medical services
  7. Serve as a liaison between the library patrons and community resources
  8. Participate in program events during traditional and non-traditional business hours to conduct outreach, build relationships, and enhance service access. Maintain up-to date documentation and case files through the agency database
 
Position Requirements

Employment Standards:

  1. Master in Social Work (Clinical supervision available for registered ASW). Bachelors Degree with experience will be considered for this position.
  2. A minimum of one year work experience in the school or community providing services to at-risk children, individuals, and/or families.
  3. Ability to have a warm and empathetic interpersonal style to establish trusting relationships with children, individuals, parents and guardians, healthcare professionals, and community organizations.
  4. Must have the ability and desire to provide services that are relevant to the culture of the individual.
  5. Ability to be flexible and adapt service delivery to the needs of the individual is a must.
  6. Possess a valid California Drivers License, proof of vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.

 

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

  1. This position is full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt, with benefits. (Benefits include: medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403(b) retirement plan. Generous holiday, sick, and vacation time also offered.)
  2. Schedule is Tuesday through Saturday; hours will be approximately 10am to 6pm each day.
  3. Pay is dependent on experience.
