The Position

The Development team at FSA is growing, and we are adding a new position! The Grant Writer takes a lead role in preparing private and public grant applications for Family Service Agency. Responsibilities include researching grant opportunities; maintaining the grants calendar; and working collaboratively with program and development staff to prepare grant proposals and reports. This position reports to the Director of Grants & Advancement.

The Grant Writer has the opportunity to be based out of any of FSA’s offices in Santa Maria, Guadalupe, Lompoc, or Santa Barbara.

Because working with those impacted by trauma can affect staff in various ways, FSA actively identifies and employs methods to support staff to embody a healthy and sustainable balance of care for both themselves and others.

 

Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities

    • Research funding opportunities from current and new public and private sources with potential to provide FSA funding.
    • Maintain FSA grants calendar including grant opportunities, reports, and due dates.
    • Attend mandatory grant preparation workshops and professional development.
    • Prepare letters of intent, grant proposals, and reports, including narratives and supporting documents.
    • Work collaboratively with program and development staff to develop proposals and reports.
    • Submit grant applications and reports on time and in the required format.
    • With Director of Grants and Advancement, develop and maintain effective, long-term working relationships with grantors.
    • Participate in, and provide feedback for, strategic annual grant planning.
 
Position Requirements

Employment Requirements:

    • BA/BS degree required.
    • Writing proficiency is required.
    • One-year minimum experience in writing public and/or private grants.
    • Adept at using computer programs and online software applications.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Can work well under pressure, manage several projects concurrently, and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Valid automobile insurance, valid California Driver License and reliable transportation throughout Santa Barbara County, as necessary.

 

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

  • This position is a part-time (20 hours per week), nonexempt, with limited benefits. Benefits include: flexible spending accounts, voluntary benefits, and a 403(b) retirement plan. Generous vacation, holiday and sick leave also offered.
  • Pay is dependent on experience.
