The Position
The Family Support Services (FSS) School Readiness Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Santa Maria Bonita School District to carry out the Early Learning Planning Grant received by the District. This includes a comprehensive needs assessment, system analysis, and co-development of the Early Learning Plan. The purpose of SMBSD’s Early Learning Plan is to support more children from birth to school entry, entering kindergarten with appropriate levels of school readiness, so that the District can ensure all students are achieving at grade level, or beyond, by third grade.

The FSS School Readiness Coordinator will also provide direct services by working collaboratively with parents, Santa Maria Bonita School District Pre-School personnel, and public and private agencies during early childhood to promote and support parent knowledge and capacity to promote healthy child development. Guided by the Protective Factors Framework, the FSS School Readiness Coordinator will provide comprehensive services to families in support of a child’s lifelong learning, health, and behavior. Through advocacy, case management, parent education, and linkage to community resources, the FSS School Readiness Coordinator will identify risks, promote strengths, and equip parents with the skills and knowledge needed to overcome sources of stress, strengthen resiliency, and provide nurturing environments.

FSA strives to be a trauma-informed and resilience-oriented organization. Because working with those impacted by trauma can affect staff in various ways, FSA actively identifies and employs methods to support staff to embody a healthy and sustainable balance of care for both themselves and others.

Sample of Duties and Responsibilities
• Work collaboratively with the Santa Maria Bonita School District to carry out the Early Learning Planning Grant received by the District. This includes a comprehensive needs assessment, system analysis, and co-development of an Early Learning Plan.
• Utilize a planning process to work through the SMBSD early learning possibilities,
• Utilize assessment skills and screening tools to triage families and determine appropriate services (case management, information and referral, parent education).
• Provide home visitation to parents to improve health and development, enhance safety and ensure access to services.
• Support parents in understanding and monitoring developmental milestones.
• Exhibit a working knowledge of community resources and provide appropriate referral to support access to social, educational, and health services.
• Serve as a liaison between the family, school, and community to support academic success, social emotional well-being, and family wellness.
• Participate in school and program events during traditional and non-traditional business hours to conduct outreach, build relationships, and enhance service access.

 
Position Requirements

Employment Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Sociology, Psychology, Education, Social Work, or related field is required. MA preferred.
• A minimum of two-years work experience in the school or community providing services to at-risk children 0-5 years of age and/or families.
• Experience with service or education planning preferred.
• Experience with Early Learning preferred.
• An ability to relate warmly and professionally to students, parents, school personnel, and community organizations.
• Will exhibit cultural competency.
• Will speak, read, write, and understand English and Spanish fluently.
• Possess a valid California Drivers License, proof of vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:
• This position is full-time (40.0 hours), non-exempt, with benefits. Benefits include: medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, as well as generous sick and vacation time.
• Pay rate is based on experience.
