The Position:

FSA is hiring for a new opportunity in Carpinteria! The principal tasks of the School Social Worker/School Case Manager are to help students and families make the best use of available opportunities and resources and to fully develop each student's individual potential. The School Social Worker/School Case Manager brings to the educational process an understanding of the psychosocial development of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences as they interact with the educational process. The School Social Worker/School Case Manager will work with those problems in a child's living situation that affect the child’s adjustment in school, such as the home, school, and general community. This position will mobilize family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program. This position will also assist in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies.

This job opening has multiple positions available! The School Social Worker will have an MA and will work at the Associate or Licensed level. The School Case Manager will work at the BA level.

Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Services To Students
    • Providing crisis intervention (SSW only).
    • Developing intervention strategies to increase academic success (SSW only).
    • Assisting with conflict resolution and anger management (SSW only).
  2. Services To Parent/Families
    • Working with parents to facilitate their support in their children's school adjustment.
    • Alleviating family stress to enable the child to function more effectively in school and community.
    • Assisting parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources.
  3. Services To School Personnel
    • Communicate and collaborate with school staff and administration.
    • Participate in case conferences and attend school site meetings related to students and families in need of support.
    • Providing staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, et) affecting a student’s performance and behavior (SSW only).
    • Assessing students with mental health concerns (SSW only).
    • Assisting teachers with behavior management (SSW only).
  4. School-Community Liaison
    • Obtaining and coordinating community resources to meet students' needs.
    • Advocating for new and improved community/school service to meet the needs of students and families.
    • Helping the system respond effectively to each child's needs.
  5. Services To Districts
    • Identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect.
    • Providing case management for students and families requiring multiple resources.
  6. Utilize trauma-informed practices and interventions, mindfulness, and behavior modification.
 
Position Requirements

Employment Standards:

  1. School Social Worker-BA or Masters Degree in Social Work or ASW, AMFT, LCSW or MFT required.
  2. School Case Manager-BA in social sciences required.
  3. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required.
  4. Experience in School Social Work, Clinical Case Management or Case Management preferred.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  6. Professionalism and discretion is required.
  7. Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, is required.
  8. Ability to travel between and among school sites throughout the District and to students’ homes, is required; a valid California driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation is required.

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

  • This position is full-time (40 hours/week), year-round, non-exempt, with benefits. Benefits include: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts and 403(b) retirement plan. Vacation, holiday and sick leave also offered.
  • Pay is dependent on education and experience.
