The Position:

The Development Specialist is an integral part of the Development team, providing skilled support for Family Service Agency’s fundraising efforts. The Development Specialist is responsible for gifts processing and database management, assisting the Communications and Marketing Manager with PR and marketing, assisting the Grants Manager with grant reporting and writing, and carrying out other development support functions as outlined below. The Development Specialist reports to the Communications and Marketing Manager, and works closely with the Grants Manager, the Events Coordinator, and the Major Gifts Officer.

Working with those impacted by trauma can be fulfilling and meaningful, yet simultaneously exhausting and heart-rending. FSA strives to be a trauma-informed and resilience-oriented organization, actively identifying and employing methods to support staff to embody a healthy and sustainable balance of care for both themselves and others.

Sample Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Gift Processing/Database Management
    1. Database entry of contributions, prepare acknowledgement letters, file documents
    2. Database Management—maintain an accurate and up-to-date donor database, generate lists and reports
  2. PR and Marketing
    1. Assist with production of mailings, marketing materials, and outreach campaigns
    2. Assist with maintaining the agency website, social media presence, and e-newsletters
  3. Grants Assistance
    1. Data collection and report preparation
    2. Writing grant applications
    3. Writing grant thank you letters
  4. Event Support
    1. Assist with events planning and coordination, including maintaining tracking of event participants and contributions
    2. Assist with auction solicitation and coordination
  5. Develop effective working relationships with volunteers, vendors, and donors
  6. Assist in representing FSA at public events, including booth set-up and program staff support.
 
Position Requirements

Employment Standards:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Requires ­­­at least two years of experience with development activities/tasks.
  • Excellent computer, written, and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Experience with donor database management and development/fundraising software, such as Donor Perfect, is preferred.
  • Professional conduct and handling of confidential information a must.
  • Background check required.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and proof of insurance required.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary to travel throughout Santa Barbara County.

 

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

  • This position is 40.0 hours per week, non-exempt, with benefits. (Benefits include: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts and 403(b) retirement plan. Pro-rated vacation, holiday and sick leave also offered.)
  • Pay is dependent on experience.
