Email Opening Title Driver/Laborer I  Close Date 10/17/2021   Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time   Exempt/Non-Exempt Non-Exempt   Description Job Summary: Under the general supervision of a Highway Supervisor or the general guidance of a lead person, performs a variety of semiskilled and skilled maintenance and construction work for roadways, storm drainage and other public works facilities and systems.   Position Driver/Laborer I   Position Requirements Minimum Qualifications: An individual applying for this position should have a combination of education and practical work experience. The minimum qualifications are: Graduation from a high school or GED. Minimum of one year of experience in the operation of a dump truck or any other commercial motor vehicle within the Class B Commercial driver’s license classification which provides comparable knowledge, abilities and skills Must possess a valid State Class B Commercial driver's license with no restrictions except corrective lens and intrastate. (A valid State Class A commercial driver's license is preferred.) Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities. Skill in the operation of some of the listed tools and equipment. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time. Ability to work safely. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to work whenever necessary. Work schedule is many times determined by weather conditions. Work days can be long and strenuous without scheduled days off for extended periods. Starting times are varied and cannot be set by employee. Ability to operate motorized vehicles and equipment, including dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, tamper, plate compactor, saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, mobile radio, phone. Ability to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or smell. Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects and equipment.
