Description

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Lifeguard and Safety Manager is responsible managing the operation of the RBAC's pools and adjacent deck space, daily supervision and training of Lifeguard personnel, and execution of comprehensive safety training program.

The position provides direct administrative oversight for the following areas: lifeguards and safety instructors. This position provides direct supervision to hourly employees, as well as oversees the management of a department budget.

 
Position Requirements

General Responsibilities:

Lifeguard Supervision

  • Establish and maintain comprehensive lifeguarding program, including training/licensing, and ongoing in
  • service training;
  • Prepare work schedules for lifeguards, anticipating patron weekly attendance and insuring proper lifeguard coverage within budget limits;
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation and logging of incident, accident and maintenance reports;
  • Coordinate lifeguard performance evaluations, physical fitness program to ensure capability to perform duties, grievances, certification records; and
  • Assist RBAC staff with the execution of events, rentals and programs by collaborating on lifeguarding staffing and supervision requirements.

Pool and Deck Operations

  • Coordinate daily operations of pools to support RBAC programs, team practices and competitions, rentals, and event schedules;
  • Monitor and document pool logs per health and safety requirements;
  • Maintain clean and safe pool environment by ensuring lifeguarding staff are actively involved with daily cleaning tasks of pools and deck; and
  • Establish and enforce rules, regulations, and standards for safety of pools and adjacent deck space.

Safety

  • Instruct, or coordinate instruction of, safety classes for RBAC staff as required;
  • Assist COO with development, refinement, and administration of the RBAC’s Emergency Response Plan and safety programs, including training and documentation.

Other

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible professional work experience supervising lifeguards and public or private pools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate (or equivalent);
  • American Red Cross Emergency Medical Response Certificate (or equivalent);
  • American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer Certificate (or equivalent);
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor's Certificate (or equivalent);
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor's Certificate (or equivalent);
  • Emergency Medical Response Instructor Certificate; and
  • Certified Pool Operator Certificate

Knowledge, Abilities and/or Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of aquatic facility operations;
  • General knowledge of feedback assessment;
  • Working knowledge of the principles of effective supervision, as well as the ability to plan and direct the work of skilled and semi-skilled staff;
  • Use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and safety improvements;
  • Collect, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal and/or written presentations;
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • Create and implement ideas to develop and promote safety and risk reduction;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patrons, and private and public agencies;
  • Clearly express ideas and directions verbally and in writing;
  • Analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action;
  • Develop, manage and adhere to operational budgets; and
  • Ability to develop and conduct workshops and safety training programs.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment and outdoors on deck involving potentially inclement weather conditions. Position requires knowledge of and familiarity with mechanical rooms and operational support areas. Some travel required. Position requires regular contact with the public. Must be able to work under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and adhere to deadlines.

  • Seeing to review and/or input information
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard

Supervision Exercised:

This position supervises hourly positions as well as part-time employees.

FLSA Status:

This classification is exempt from FLSA requirements.

Work Schedule:

Full-Time; 12 months

Anticipated Salary Range (Annually):

$58,250 – $70,000
