SUMMARY

Reflecting the spirit, grace, and uncompromised courtesy of our Founders, the Estate Greeter is the first face of Opus One, greeting guests at our guest reception desk. The Estate Greeter must provide friendly, welcoming hospitality when checking groups in upon arrival, guiding them to their tasting, and when necessary, diplomatically informing unexpected visitors that we may not be able to accommodate them. Additionally, the concierge will have to knowledgeably answer questions about Opus One and our guest experiences, take phone calls, and help book appointments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, and other duties may be assigned.

  • When answering the gate phone, the Estate Greeter will greet the guests with a warm, professional welcome, direct those with reservations to park and guide them towards guest reception. If guests arrive without an appointment, the Estate Greeter will check the availability and facilitate booking appointments where possible.
  • Once the guests arrive to the Concierge desk, the Estate Greeter is responsible for greeting guests, checking them in for their appointment and either walking them to their pre-assigned table, or introducing them to their host who will escort them. The role requires clear communication with tasting room hosts and assisting as needed.
  • Manage table assignments to ensure a smooth flow of the Courtyard and Terrace areas
  • Print and complete seating cards with all pertinent details including guest name, table number, time of reservation and any special notes (i.e. birthday celebration)
  • While working at guest reception, the Estate Greeter stays in constant communication with the Guest Relations team while always managing the flow of guests in and around the winery.
  • May assist in answering phones, emails, and making confirmation phone calls.
  • Assists guests in answering questions about the winery, vineyards, and region, and may be asked to make recommendations for other visit and dining options.
  • Keeps the front desk clean and organized and maintains all entryways and guest spaces.
  • Responsible for completing opening and closing checklist of responsibilities, including locking of all doors, turning off music and heaters, covering furniture as well as other duties that may be assigned.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain, update, and expand knowledge of viticulture and enology by participating in educational trainings offered by Opus One and by outside sources.
  • Speak knowledgeably about all Opus One experiences, and vintages offered for sale at the winery.
  • Assist in developing educational/training aids for use by the Guest Relations department.

Position Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience

Two (2) years’ experience working at a winery, wine-related business, or restaurant; comprehensive wine knowledge; strong retail sales/public relations skills and experience; understanding, desire, and ability to represent Opus One so as best to promote its wines and image; foreign language skills (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, or Spanish) preferred; college degree or college level coursework preferred; knowledge of viticulture, winemaking, wine marketing, and/or wine tasting preferred. Certified in both Food Handlers and TIPS Alcohol required.

Skills

Excellent command of written and spoken English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions, and percentages. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and/or fingers to handle or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand for long periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to sit, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee must have the ability to speak without amplification for a minimum of 4 hours. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • Follow all company policies and procedures including job safety, safety rules and regulations.

  • Immediately report all unsafe conditions, work-related accidents, and illnesses to Safety Manager and supervisor.
