**This position is currently a primarily remote-work role due to COVID-19 and allows for a flexible schedule to meet priorities outside of work.

Position Overview

Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) Marketing Team is seeking a stellar Communications Specialist to join in our mission to tell the JFS story. Our community is excited to know more about us: our services, our successes, and how they can support our mission.

As the communications specialist, you’ll be in charge of crafting our brand narrative and creating the writing that engages many different audiences – from donors to volunteers to the individuals and families accessing our programs for assistance. We are looking for a seasoned creative storyteller/persuasive writer who will be active in improving current strategies and implementing new ones of their own design that increase community engagement.

Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, write, and implement donor communications designed to create awareness and engagement, including newsletters, e-newsletters, stewardship stories, solicitations, and more. Previous experience creating fundraising campaign materials is a big plus.
  • Develop, write, and implement communications to promote our programs and services, including flyers, brochures, email blasts, and other print/online collateral.
  • Lead and develop social media campaigns to meaningfully engage our diverse audiences.
  • Oversee website content, analyze, and optimize with team.
  • Lead an agency-wide blog, including developing the editorial calendar, soliciting and writing articles, recruiting and managing guest bloggers and interns, and tracking goals.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Excellent written communication skills. Must be able to write with a voice! No dry reports here. An understanding of persuasive writing is essential. Creativity is welcomed and encouraged.
  • Ability to adapt writing style for different audiences and communication channels.
  • Social media evangelist – must be ready to map a strategic course for our brand to maximize impact on these important communication channels, including (but not limited to) Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills – you are a great listener and a great articulator of your vision.
  • Strong understanding of brand management and why it is important
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work diligently and efficiently, successfully prioritize and manage multiple projects in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, English, communications, writing, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in marketing, advertising, communications, or public relations.
  • A passionate commitment and belief in the JFS mission.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in development/marketing in a nonprofit organization
  • Experience in creating donor engagement materials
  • Knowledge of social management tools such as Hootsuite.
  • Knowledge of WordPress.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud’s Luminate Online.
