Share Email Opening Title Director of Transportation Planning  Description Position Description: Alliant Engineering, Inc. is looking to add a Director of Transportation Planning to develop and grow our Transportation Planning Group. This position presents a great opportunity for a self-motivated individual to work in a dynamic and challenging environment in our new downtown Minneapolis office with opportunity for leadership within the organization. The successful candidate we desire will manage projects, lead staff, and play a key business development role in marketing Alliant to clients. Position Responsibilities: Grow and lead a multi-disciplinary team focused on the planning and design of medium to large transportation projects that include transit, corridor and visioning studies, access management, transportation plans, and environmental studies (EIS, AUAR). Lead the Transportation Planning group while directing the technical production of planning assignments and teams. Oversee transportation system/network planning and development of transportation master plans. Coordinate with project managers, project designers and other disciplines on multiple large scale and complex transportation planning and urban design projects to ensure that the client's technical requirements of projects are fully met. Direct, coordinate, and review technical work performed by other project team members. Responsible for presentations and public engagement. Work closely with County, City, and State leaders. Develop, maintain and update project budgets and schedules. Work directly with clients to deliver superior service. Develop proposals, deliver presentation and prepare analysis and project reports. Review and interpret applicable laws and regulations, as well as drafting comments on proposed state and federal rulemaking. Apply your project management skills for planning, organizing, monitoring and directing work activities and budgets. Engage in marketing activities to grow your client network and to bring in new work. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Urban Design, Urban Transportation Planning or Civil Engineering Licensed Professional Engineer or AICP 15+ years of Transportation Planning experience with at least 10 years as a project manager. Ability to manage complex projects of multidisciplinary nature Understanding of traffic operations, capacity and safety as it relates to active transportation planning studies. Experience managing and mentoring staff Experience with client management, proposal development, and marketing Strong working technical knowledge of engineering principles and practices is required Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment is essential Ability to manage complex technical analysis, with a working knowledge of tools such as travel demand forecasting (e.g. EMME, TransCAD, VISUM), micro-simulation (e.g. VISSIM, Synchro), and GIS database software; Ability to use independent judgment and analyze transportation problems, research and statistics.
