Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director, Marketing and Communications, the Manager, Marketing and Advertising will aid in the development and execution of the Museum's efforts to promote the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures (AMMP) and its collections, programs activities, exhibitions and facilities. This position oversees aspects of marketing and advertising in order to promote the branding, position, visibility and audience and visitor growth. Through the use of fully developed and executed marketing and media plans, the Manager is charged with enhancing AMMP's image in the market place in order to positively impact attendance, earned revenue, and contributions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute overall marketing and media strategies.
  • Help define, be completely versed in, and ensure the adherence to communication standards.
  • Develop and execute exhibition-related advertising strategies, including selection of publications and outlets for ad placement and layout.
  • Institute and supervise marketing initiatives for exhibitions including cultivation events, cross-promotions, and targeted mailings with other cultural institutions, art schools, and arts organizations.
  • Develop shared marketing and innovative partnerships with key arts and cultural organizations.
  • Work with travel and hospitality partners to promote AMMP as a cultural destination.
  • Oversee the Digital Media Coordinator to develop and execute digital media initiatives, including newsletters, email blasts, and social networking, as well as community outreach initiatives to new and current audiences.
  • Partner with the Director, Visitor Services to develop key strategies to grow visitors, track visitor attendance and enhance the visitor experience.
  • Support the PR team on local, regional, national, and international media coverage of the exhibitions, public programs, fundraising activities, and other important events.
  • Support the corporate partnerships team by helping to execute marketing partnership activations and ensure partners are included in marketing and promotional efforts where required.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required, ideally in art history, public relations, marketing, communications, or liberal arts, or commensurate related experience.
  • Must have two to three years’ experience in a directly related field.
  • Demonstrated track record in planning and conducting marketing and media campaigns.
  • Knowledge of national arts and audience trends and extensive experience with audience research, strategic public information, and community-relations concepts, principles, methodology, and techniques.
  • Experience in media placement, printing, production, creative development, and innovative community partnerships.
  • The ideal candidate will have knowledge of advertising and marketing theory, good contacts with media, and cooperative marketing partners, the ability to both lead and manage marketing efforts, and also be an effective team player with AMMP's other staff.
  • Must have excellent, demonstrated written, oral, interpersonal, and communication skills (including editing ability), and must be able to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Candidates for this position should possess a good capacity for thinking strategically, as well as an ability to supervise and manage employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Nonprofit experience, particularly within the museum space, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of museum press/media is important.
  • Should have an ability to work flexibly and collaboratively.
  • Must be able to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with a high level of creativity and entrepreneurship.
  • Bi-lingual preferred, Spanish and/or Korean.
  • Sense of humor.
