Position Mortgage Originator  
Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time  


The Mortgage Originator position is responsible for making a valuable contribution to the bank's mortgage sales objectives. Key responsibilities include new prospect development, customer contacts, originating mortgage loans, customer relationship management, contributing to marketing/lead generation and assisting with selling other bank products and services.


Loan Origination Management

  • Respond promptly to all opportunities and requests from customers and prospects
  • Consistently follow up on potential prospects and leads
  • Quote loan rates and answer questions pertaining to the loan product or products based on regulatory guidelines and bank policy
  • Interview mortgage loan applicants following lending policy guidelines and bank's customer service guidelines
  • Accurately complete loan applications and other necessary documents within the Encompass system; collect all necessary documents from the applicant(s)
  • Actively follow up with applicants for required documents or information needed to process and underwrite the mortgage

Mortgage Sales Goal Performance

  • Achieve mortgage origination goals and objectives set for new mortgage growth
  • Achieve goals and objectives set within employment agreement
  • Consistently follow up on mortgage rates from competitors and gather valuable information on other initiatives offered by them
  • Contribute to bank promotional and marketing activities to generate leads for mortgages

Customer and Business Contacts

  • Achieve goals and objectives set for number, type and frequency of customer/realtor or other business contacts
  • Maintain an accurate record of customer contacts in CRM (Coretrac) system, including valuable notes to assist our sales process within the bank
  • Generate accurate expense reports and lists of new and/or potential contacts in their region

Customer Relationship Management/Lead Generation

  • Address applicant/customer questions and concerns, document the conversations and take appropriate action to overcome issues; enter in Compliant Tracker for compliance purposes
  • Conduct sales calls and generate leads on referral sources to generate mortgage business
  • Use sales and technical expertise to assist customers on meeting their needs for current and potential services and products

Compliance & Security Requirements

  • Follow lending procedures and policies; stay current on new and upcoming regulatory changes
  • Comply with BSA requirements relating to Suspicious Activity Reporting. Currency Transaction Reporting, OFAC and red flags
  • Is aware of and complies with CRA guideline and policies, ethic policy, and non-discrimination policy
  • Follow security protocols for entering and leaving the office
  • Safeguard all customer documents and information by locking drawers, cabinets, computers, etc.

Reports To: Sales Manager or Mortgage Operations Manager

Position Requirements

Educational and experience requirements include:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent mortgage experience preferred
  • 2+ years relevant experience in a sales or customer service role, preferably in a related industry
  • Strong business development skills
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Above average written and oral communication skills to interact with customers, prospects and our internal team
  • Proven customer relationship management skills
  • Proven marketing skills and a demonstrated ability to generate mortgage sales leads

Is regularly required to operate a computer and other office equipment, such as, a copy machine, calculator, phone, and computer printer.

Is required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word to convey detailed spoken instructions to other employees accurately.

Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
