Description

Under the direction of the Manager of Advocacy and Support Services the Advocacy Coordinator will perform the day-to-day administrative functions of the Advocacy and Support Services Department as well as case management. This Advocacy Coordinator is responsible clerical and administrative assistance for various portions of the department (i.e. intakes, transportation, tours and community outreach). The incumbent also serves as initial point of contact for people in the community seeking information regarding services available and responsible for networking with local referring agencies to generate potential enrollments into OV programs and services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  2. Reinforce and positively engage in Opportunity Village’s organizational culture supporting choice and creativity of OVIPs (Opportunity Village Important People) and of staff.
  3. Network and maintain professional positive relationship with community referral sources.
  4. Participate in all advocacy activities including calls from community, professional meetings as well as conducting tours/intakes and assist in coordination of special events for OVIPs.
  5. Coordinate the intake assessment process, including scheduling meeting with all vocational team members, and preparation of assessment reports, and communication with case workers regarding documentation needs i.e., psychological and social assessments, and contract certifications.
  6. Facilitate and assist in the completion of all assessment documentation and other required documents, and submitting all documentation and information (E-format) to necessary departments and agencies.
  7. Maintain current and accurate individual’s data base information, and other existing data bases including attendance, billing etc, and for the maintenance of individual files per HIPAA compliance.
  8. Maintain Manager’s schedule, meetings and calendar.
  9. Answer and respond to telephone calls and e-mails.
  10. Maintain inventory and supplies of the program; place supply orders.
  11. Maintain the filing system including training records and computer records to ensure all information is secure and easily retrievable.
  12. Audit client files, records, and books on a regular basis to ensure accuracy, and compliance with Federal, State and Opportunity Village policies and procedures.
  13. Advocate for appropriate vocational and support goals for each client served.
  14. Develop habilitation and service plans for OVIPs and train department managers on all Habilitation and Service Plans.
  15. Understand and comply with all safety regulations within our organization as well as OSHA compliance.
  16. Responsible for all applicable Federal, State, and Organizational Case Management reports and documentation to be submitted accurately and in a timely fashion.
  17. Submit transportation requests, cancellations and communicate changes/concerns while monitoring accuracy.
  18. Collaborate with other staff and volunteers to ensure that all adults with disabilities have the opportunity to: gain knowledge of self-management and behavioral skills that will enhance their contribution and integration into the community.
  19. Complete scholarship, private pay, JDT funding and other agency funding renewals.
  20. Complete written scholarship, success, grant, and newsletter stories/articles.
  21. Serve as primary liaison and advocate for OVIPs.
  22. Maintain funding contracts and perform accounting functions needed to comply with such contracts.
  23. Organize departmental orientation, employee training classes and maintain training logs including monthly rights training ongoing for the clients.
  24. Report suspected Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation (ANE) within 24 hours as mandated by state law.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Must possess basic math skills (i.e. adding, subtracting, etc).
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret written information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, co-workers and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand other’s reactions and behaviors.
  • Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge and have initiative.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentially.
  • Ability work with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Must encompass professional demeanor.
  • Strong verbal, written and communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills, ability to set priorities, and multi-task.
  • Ability to work as a team player, and possess good customer service skills.
  • Good computer skills including Word and Excel software knowledge.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Preferred: Bachelor Degree in Human Services or related field.
  • Preferred: Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP).
  • Required: One (1) year of verifiable work experience with individuals with intellectual disabilities or related field.
  • Required: A valid clean Nevada Driver’s License, an insured vehicle and ability for flexible work schedule as needed.
    • Required to attend special events as needed.
  • Required: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification is required or the ability to supply certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Required: Current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification is required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
