Description

Overview of position:

The Economist Associate is responsible for aiding in the implementation of a socioeconomic program and research for the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries through engaging in public/private partnerships, supporting economic and social science research, characterization, valuation, and assessment efforts. This position is also responsible for communicating socioeconomic contributions and impacts relating to National Marine Sanctuaries to the surrounding communities and promoting national marine sanctuaries on behalf of the Foundation by responding to inquiries from general public or other agencies or organizations, attends professional meetings to present research done at national marine sanctuary sites. The Economist Associate is also responsible for developing tools and materials to communicate the results of research and to educate the public on the research. This may include videos, factsheets, infographics and presentations.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop sanctuary characterizations/socioeconomic profiles of ONMS managed sites;

  • Integrate economic, human dimensions non-economic and ecological information for assessing ecosystem services and economic valuations

  • Prepare socioeconomic reports using existing data sources and original data collections

  • Work with ONMS on social media and provide updates for ONMS website;

  • Communicate socioeconomic findings to the Foundation, NOAA, other partners and the general public.

Compensation and Benefits Salary Range: $50,000-$55,000

The Foundation offers a competitive benefits package.

Start Date: April 2021
