The Demand Manager leads the detailed sku level demand planning function for ShurTech.  This position has strong interfaces between the Customer Analysts (Information Logistics), Customer Supply Chain Teams, and the Supply Planning Team.  This position is responsible for developing and implementing item/location sku forecasting processes that enable ShurTech to meet its customer service objectives with the least amount of inventory and / or premium transportation costs possible. 


  • Decides on the unit finished good forecast at the item/location level for the base (replenishment) forecast.  Review and approval of new product / promotional placement provided by Sales through the Product Service Alert (PSA)
  • Decides on the schedule of events related to the monthly demand planning process; with the approval of the Vice President of Supply Chain, alters the schedule of events in the process as business conditions warrant
  • Allocates resources of the Demand Planning Department based on the priorities of the business
  • Determines the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that are used by the Demand Planning Department to control the process
  • Develops and fully implements all related SKU forecast processes, tools, and metrics
  • Responsible for performance management of the Demand Planning Team
  • Responsible for the regular review and measurement of the demand plan consistent with the current processes and standards
  • Performs root cause analysis of all appropriate forecast to demand exceptions at the item/location level
  • Adequately communicates and interfaces with the supply planning teams and Customer Supply Chain to which it relates SKU level demand forecasting.
  • Gathers the appropriate information (POS reports, new item report, customer inventory position) from the Customer Supply Chain Teams to drive the most reasonable and accurate sku level forecast possible
  • Supports the company’s culture and business mission by promoting communication, teamwork, and the respectful treatment of all individuals
  • Oversees the performance of the Demand Planning group; provides coaching and direction to the team on the demand planning process
  • Oversees and adjusts the SKU level forecast based on established processes; communicates these adjustments to the appropriate supply team members in a proactive manner
  • Reconciles the aggregate detail level forecast to the sales plan and S&OP plan over the planning horizon; communicates discrepancies and adjusts accordingly
  • Attends and enthusiastically participates in the Service Excellence Team (SET) meeting assisting in the diagnosis of service failures; represents Demand Planning in the weekly Operations Meeting
  • Attends and enthusiastically participates in the meetings that manage high risk / “warning” items;  leads the demand side of this meeting in consultation with the appropriate Customer Analyst or Customer Supply Chain Teams
  • Directly manages the detailed forecast for selected parts of the business


Metrics include, but are not limited to:

  • Customer on time and fill rate as it relates to material availability
  • Item/location sku level forecast accuracy
  • Aggregate forecast consumption
  • Days of Inventory
  • Inventory management costs such as premium freight, planning related rework, scrap, liquidation losses
  • Conformance to established forecast processes
Position Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business discipline
  • Consumer Products experience preferred
  • APICS certification a plus
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a demand planning role including 1+ years supervisory experience
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with other departments (Info Logistics, Sales, etc)
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Outstanding leadership ability
  • Strong ERP experience.  SAP would be a plus
  • Computer literate including proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to mine and interpret data
