The Senior Process Development Engineer will work with New Product Development (NPD) teams and Manufacturing to design and scale-up of new Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSA) tape products and improve the performance and economics of existing products by incorporating process   principles into product design.


  • Maintains a high standard of safety performance
  • Couples manufacturing process knowledge with fundamental knowledge of rheology, mixing, compounding and coating to design PSA tape technology; works with new product development scientists to incorporate manufacturing considerations into the final product design
  • Develops and employs parameters to scale up new PSA formulations and structures to the commercial units; creates technology transfer documents and support plant start-up trials
  • Works with tollers to scale up adhesive and coating formulations and conditions
  • Effectively manages research projects including definition of goals, timing, resource requirements and execution plan; documents project work in technical reports
  • Recommends and assists in implementing manufacturing process changes to improve existing product structures and manufacturing methods in order to improve product quality, reduce costs, and increase efficiencies; optimizes process conditions to achieve desirable product performance
  • Maintains a technical awareness of materials, processes, and general technology of the industry through literature study, supplier contacts, and technical meetings and incorporates these learnings into the development of new products
Position Requirements
  • B.S degree in Chemical Engineering or Polymer Engineering; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience
  • Extensive knowledge of polymer melt processing methods, experience with rubber, polyolefins and acrylic processing, adhesive formulations, design and compounding of multi-component blend formulations, and selecting screws for twin screw extruders to achieve specific performance requirements
  • Familiarity with polymer/adhesive analytical and characterization techniques
  • Strong knowledge of rheology and rheological characterization techniques, as well as polymer structure-property relationships
  • Some manufacturing experience with strong knowledge of extrusion and PSA tape production processes
  • Demonstrated ability to scale-up technology from concept through commercialization
  • Ability to collaborate with different disciplines and across the business and manufacturing functions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to present effectively to business, technical and operating groups
  • Experience leading new technology development teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
