The Position
The Contact Tracer is special position in partnership with the Public Health Department (PHD) of Santa Barbara County. Contact tracing is a critical component for preventing the further spread of COVID-19 in the community. The Contact Tracer performs a wide variety of tasks including, but not limited to: making phone calls to index COVID-19 cases, eliciting information from phone contact around dates of exposure, exposure setting, demographics and documenting conversations and information obtained through phone interviews. The Contact Tracer will conduct COVID-19 case interviews and contact-tracing using a respectful approach that builds trust and facilitates the free sharing of information. Various trainings provided by the Public Health Department will be provided before any contact tracing work begins. The Contact Tracer will follow all scripts, policies and procedures provided and maintain a high level of confidential information related to case interviews and contacts.
This position is remote within Santa Barbara, SLO, or Ventura counties and staff will not have exposure to COVID-19 while conducting their job duties. There are multiple job openings for this position.

Sample of Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow all scripts, policies and procedures provided by the Santa Barbara Public Health Department.
- Completes all trainings provided by the PHD and attends meetings held by the PHD as needed.
- Protects and maintains individuals’ privacy and confidentiality.
- Conducts telephone interviews in a professional and empathetic manner with COVID-19 cases and close contacts of COVID-19 patients.
- Provide follow-up instructions to cases and to contacts related to quarantine, symptom monitoring, testing resources, and medical care.
- Provides resources and/or referrals to cases and contacts as needed.
- Collects and records information obtained in the online secure data entry system, and maintains these as needed.
- Manages assigned caseload and ensures prompt and accurate data entry. Seeks supervisor support with cases and/or contacts as needed.
Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:
- This position is full-time (40.0 hours), non-exempt, with limited benefits. Benefits include: 403(b) retirement plan and sick time.
- Pay rate is based on experience.
