Our Youth Care Workers work provide supervision, support, and direction to residents that will foster positive growth and development. Also, they maintain a hazard-free, clean, and orderly household; prepare meals by house menus; complete all required logs, forms, and reports. They participate in meetings as scheduled, accompany groups or individual children for recreation or appointments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes a clinically supportive environment, developing an individual relationship with each resident that emphasizes that youth’s positive growth and development.
  • Under the supervision of the Group Home Supervisor, ensures an orderly schedule for the residents by supervising their daily activities: wake-up, mealtime, study time, chores and bedtime, monitor individual appointments to ensure the timely arrival by each resident.
  • Monitors each resident’s physical well-being, ensuring suitable clothing, adequate food, and all required medical treatments, including the dispensing of medication, as prescribed by physicians.
  • Accompanies and transports residents to outside activities, including supervised recreation and appointments, as required.
  • Maintains a hazard-free, clean, and orderly household by promptly reporting maintenance problems to the supervisory staff and by the completion of assigned household chores in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Prepares meals and snacks as per the direction of the Group Home Supervisor and according to posted menus.
  • Is responsible for petty cash and other house valuables as assigned by the Group Home Supervisor and distributes according to Group Home procedures.
  • Completes all required reports and logs, including incident reports, medication log, group home log, maintenance log, resident point sheets, and daily count as prescribed by the agency’s procedures.
  • Answers telephone and takes messages in a professional, mature manner
  • Actively participates in meetings, including clinical treatment team meetings, as required and ensures that treatment plans and programs are carried out as prescribed
  • Establishes a clinically supportive environment by facilitating an individual relationship with each resident that focuses on their growth and development
  • Implements social skills teaching with assigned residents consistent with the residents’ behavior plans
  • Utilizes effective praise, corrective teaching, planned teaching, and crisis teaching to minimize the need for negative consequences and maximize the use of positive consequences
  • Engage in one-to-one dialogue with each resident at least one time per shift
  • Attends mandatory training and workshops as required by the agency to enhance professional growth

 

 
Position Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of professional childcare experience preferred
  • Valid New York State drivers license
  • Ability to work assigned shifts. Requires flexibility and availability for emergency and required coverage of the home
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to policies and respond to supervision
  • Must demonstrate patience, and social experience to permit the formation of a professional relationship and adult role model with children and their families, including those with different religious, cultural, ethnic backgrounds and sexual preferences
  • Must have the knowledge and ability to help residents with school work
  • Demonstrates the ability to mentor and positively influence the youth by modeling pro-social behaviors
 
Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time and/or Part-Time  
Salary $15.00/hr-$16.00/hr  
Benefits 2 weeks vacation, 2 personal days, 8 sick days, 12 holidays/yr, Medical, dental and vision, 403b
