Full Time Pediatric Neurology RN

Full time Neurology nurse in a busy child neurology outpatient practice.  This RN will have the opportunity to work with Dr. Steven Wolf and Patty McGoldrick, NP.  Dr. Wolf and Patty McGoldrick are nationally known and this is one of the top Pediatric Neurology offices in the nation.

Nurse will utilize his/her knowledge of professional nursing concepts to determine and assess the needs of patients and families. He/she will evaluate the health care needs of patients during daytime office hours. He/she is the center of contact between providers and patients, clinical vendors, insurance companies, school nurses, care coordinators, pharmacies and the like, and performs all duties collaboratively with NPs and MDs and under the direction of NP. Provides care for patients in the office and via phone contact.

Duties and Responsibilities

 1.) PATIENT RELATED SKILLS:

  • Provide consultation, education and serve as primary interface between epilepsy providers, child neurologists, and office manager in the pediatric neurology office and interacts with staff from the larger organization and referrers as well as inpatient teams.
  • Coordinates patient care for pediatric epilepsy and neurology patients as directed
  • Takes vitals, performs review of systems, reconciles medications, reviews allergies during visits
  • Telephone triage
  • Ensures continuity of care- facilitates visits
  • Provides counseling and education to patients with epilepsy and other neurological disorders under the direction of NPs and MDs
  • Ensures continuity of care for patients transitioning between the inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Identifies needs and assists in initiation of new policies/procedures that ensure appropriate care for specified populations in collaboration with NPs/MDs
  • Ensures Quality measures are accurately reviewed and maintained at high level, in collaboration with NPs and MDs
  • Completes school forms, camp forms
  • Maintains databases for research
  • Educates families, patients and school staff about first aid in case of seizures and the use of rescue medications at home and in school under the direction of NP and MDs
  • Ensure medication reconciliation is complete and patient and families have clear instructions regarding medications
  • Collaboration with research team in ongoing pharmaceutical and neurodevelopmental/genetic studies.
  • Demonstrates a courteous, customer-service oriented manner with patients, visitors and co-workers
  • Contributes to a productive, efficient work environment
  • Completes quality improvement initiatives as instructed by NP/MDs
  • Collaborates with EEG technicians.
  • Draws blood, processes specimens.
  • Entering and queuing medications directly with the EMR/Nextgen, preparing medication documentation for NPs and MDs to sign off on.
  • Ensures that each patient has supporting documentation for care plan, including forms and referrals and will, with the office manager and secretarial staff, coordinate the scheduling and authorizations for testing.
  • Will obtain authorizations for medications.

 2.) REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area
  • Age Specific Competencies (Neonate/Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent,)
  • Identifies physical, behavioral and emotional characteristics typical for the age group
  • Modifies approaches based on patient age-specific needs and responses to treatment
  • Provides care for patients based on age-specific and developmental needs.

3.) MISCELLANEOUS

  • Participates in conferences, technical meetings and other educational activities when possible.
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Enters data into REDCAPS database at time of visit
  • Participates in referrals to research studies

4.)  Minimum Education

  • BSN required – Graduate of accredited Program

5.) Preferred Related Experience

  • 2 years prior experience in pediatrics (neurology experience preferred)
  • Experience in working with people with disabilities

6.) Minimum Licensing Requirements

  • RN License
  • BLS/PALS
