The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and world-class aquatics facility that offers year round aquatic and fitness programming to children, youth, families and seniors, so that we can ensure that all generations can achieve the benefits of healthy living habits, regular exercise, and sports training.

Description

We are seeking a new President & Executive Director to lead our organization and oversee all operations and safety initiatives. The Center serves a diverse regional population and is committed to equity, access, and opportunity for all community members.

In our five bodies of water including two Olympic size (50 meter x 25 yard) pools, a warm water therapy pool, and two hydro therapy spas, we serve more than 450,000 annual patrons producing approximately $8 Million in revenue. Our facilities also include diving platforms/boards, exercise and weight rooms, locker rooms, aquatic pro shop, food and beverage center, plus office and conference spaces.

An annual staff of over 240+ provides over 100 hours of weekly programming to young people and adults including nearly 1000 youth competing in our swim, dive, and water polo teams. Further significant programming is dedicated to swim instruction classes, water therapy, and patrons with special needs. The Center proudly partners with the Pasadena Unified School District’s 17 elementary schools to provide all 3rd grade students with 15 water safety and swim lessons each year.

President and Executive Director Job Description

The President and Executive Director (hereafter ED) leads the staff of the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center (hereafter RBAC). The ED is responsible for overseeing the administration, finances, facilities, safety, risk management, programs, and strategic plan of RBAC. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, plus active community promotion and outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Board Interaction: Works with Board to fulfill RBAC’s mission through programs, strategic planning and community outreach

  • Leads RBAC in a manner that supports and guides its mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Communicates effectively with the Board and provides, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions.
  • Manages the strategic planning to ensure that RBAC can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
  • Collaborates with the Board and participates in committee and Board meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

2) RBAC Operations: Leads, develops, and implements professional and system resources to ensure that RBAC achieves peak performance.

  • Establishes employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of RBAC to ensure maximum safety and risk management.
  • Is responsible for safe and sound operation and condition of facilities and physical plant.
  • Hires and retains competent, qualified senior staff who work with HR to develop supporting staff.
  • Leads the effective administration of RBAC operations and delegates authority to staff.
  • Signs notes and agreements made and entered into on behalf of RBAC (subject to Board approval or execution as required).
  • Facilitates and encourages active committee involvement in RBAC’s operations.
  • Serves as RBAC’s primary spokesperson to constituents, the media and the general public.
  • Enhances RBAC’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations.
  • Interacts with City partners and leadership including duties within lease.
  • Ensures equity, access, and opportunity for all community members at RBAC.

3) Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure RBAC financial health.

  • Leads the financial efforts of RBAC including budgeting, analyzing, motivating and measuring all aspects of revenue generation. In addition to fees for services, this includes integrating other components that add to the Center’s core business and revenues from philanthropic activities, grants, and government funding sources.
  • Is responsible for the fiscal integrity of RBAC and financial best practices including submission to the Board of an annual budget and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the RBAC’s financial condition.
  • Assists Board and Audit Committee with the selection of the independent auditor who reviews RBAC’s operations and financial function.
  • Reviews and approves contracts for services, authorizes purchase orders and signs or co-signs checks on behalf of RBAC for services rendered (along with Board when required).
  • Participates in the selection of financial institutions and oversight of investments.
 
Position Requirements

Professional Qualifications Needed

  • A bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred with an emphasis or experience in business.
  • Five or more years of senior nonprofit management experience preferred.
  • Experience and skill in working with and reporting to a Board of Directors.
  • Transparent and high integrity attention to detail leadership.
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
  • Strong financial skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
  • High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey RBAC’s mission and strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, donors, City partners, and community at large.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, oversee, collaborate, and build trusting relationships with a large and dynamic staff population.
  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
  • Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and funding community understanding.
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
  • Experience with Aquatics environments a plus, but not required.

  • Base Salary of $140,000 - $160,000 DOE
