I)Summary of Responsibilities: The Sports Information Director (SID) is responsible for the overall management of sport information and sport media relations, including internal and external communication and publications, and interfacing with the media. The SID reports to the Director of Athletics and to the Director of Marketing Services and Public Relations (PR).
II)Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)
A. Leads all aspects of sports information to include but not limited to:
1.Maintains up-to-date knowledge of, and compliance with, Geneva College, NCAA Division III and PAC rules and regulations.
2.Serves as a media contact on behalf of Geneva College athletics.
3.Serves as the official intercollegiate sports contact for statistical information to the NCAA and PAC.
4.Models Christian attitudes and behaviors for student-athletes, students, staff and fans.
5.Follows accepted Geneva practices and approvals regarding photography, graphics and content of all communications and materials.
6.Compiles and files statistical information for all intercollegiate sports contests.
7.Designs, compiles and publishes all sports publications (sport media guides, game day programs) with involvement/approval of associates in the PR Office and following established Geneva College identity, style and standards.
8.Regularly distributes and updates sports information emails and internet information.
9.Distributes news releases about Geneva athletics and competition, particularly regarding pre-contest and post-contest information, to the media.
10.Works with local media regarding articles and broadcast segments on intercollegiate sports teams.
11.Oversees the press box and media during home intercollegiate sports contests.
12.Organizes and schedules video broadcasts, including weekly updates and player of the week interviews.
13.Oversees SID support personnel and student workers.
14.Travels, when needed, to various away contests.
15.Proficient in photography and subjects within athletic settings.
B. Leads in aspects of Graphic Design, Social Media, and Web Updates:
1. Oversees the graphic design of all athletic publications, following established Geneva branding.
2. Consistently updates the web (scores and game reports, news releases, articles, pictures).
3. Oversees advancement in communication through use of social media (twitter, facebook, and blogs).
4. Maintains updated information for campus smart sings and fieldhouse TV.
5. Organize athletic photography though Geneva resources or other off campus resources.
C. Financial Management:
1.Maintains Sports Information budget.
2.Adheres to budget guidelines, keeps records, and writes reports.
D. Other:
1.Actively participates in athletic department functions and meetings, and in college committees as assigned.
2.Maintains effective working relationships with administrative staff, coaches, student-athletes and other staff.
3.Functions as a team member and works closely with fellow staff members of the Marketing and PR Office and attend regular meetings with the PR staff. Serves as the athletic liaison for PR & Marketing.
4.Performs related duties as assigned.
E. Supervision:
1. Supervises regular and student employees to include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning and directing work, coaching, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
2. Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.
