I)Summary of Responsibilities: The Director of Career Development is responsible for the leadership and strategic vision of a comprehensive career development center that includes: employer relations, calling and career counseling, job search assistance, on-campus employment opportunities, graduate school counseling and information, and internship coordination. The director primarily serves undergraduate students, graduate students, and online students, while also working with external constituents such as employers and alumni. The director serves on the Student Development Leadership Team and works closely with other Student Development personnel, Enrollment personnel, Alumni Relations, and the faculty. II)Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.) A.Visionary Leadership - Establish strategic goals for the Career Development Center, including long-range planning and assessment, that develops the center into a recognized program known for its approach to Christian vocation and calling.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop and evaluate a team of staff, graduate assistants, and student workers.
- Represent Geneva College to visiting employers, prospective families, and alumni.
- Provide visionary leadership to the Employer Advisory Board.
- Contribute to Student Development, and the campus at large, via meetings, programs, committees, and events, and be an active leader within the Student Development Division.
B.Direct Calling & Career Development Programs, Resources and Services: - Develop and maintain communication and relationships with employers, with a focus on Beaver County and the greater Pittsburgh area.
- Develop, present, and assess workshops and special events.
- Actively participate in consortium job fairs.
- Oversee employer recruitment.
- Facilitate meaningful campus work experiences for traditional undergraduate students.
C.Calling & Career Counseling - Provide professional calling and career assessment, counseling, and advising for students.
- Develop, produce, and evaluate resources, guides, articles, and website resources.
D.Administrative Duties - Exercise budgetary control and fiscal responsibility for the department’s budget.
- Maintain resources, including: career information, written and computerized career assessment instruments, graduate school information, and employment opportunities.
- Collaborate with Institutional Research to implement and execute the first-destination initiative, surveying, tracking and disseminating information on graduate placement information.
- Market the services and programs of the Career Development Center on campus.
- Coordinate internship experiences for students working with faculty, students, and sponsors providing necessary resources to develop successful experiential learning opportunities.
- Conduct annual program assessment.
- All other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Development.
D. Supervision: 1. Supervise regular and student employees to include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning and directing work, coaching, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. 2. Supervise department’s staff, train staff, evaluate staff, provide communication, support and ensure they are fulfilling their roles to benefit the Geneva College Community. 3. Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment. 4. Must be committed to the hiring, training, development, and evaluation of graduate students. III)Performance Development Areas: A. - General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job. Ability to make off-site visits for employer relations functions.
- Physical: Must be able to perform the following: talking, hearing, and seeing. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, fax machines, copy machines, modems, and telephones.
