Geneva College is a Christian liberal arts college in the reformed tradition located about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1848 by the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, Geneva has majors in both liberal arts and pre-professional programs, and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Geneva's faculty provide a challenging education that prepares students for careers, for further education, and for life. In all fields of study, students are challenged to explore the implications of the Christian faith on their discipline. Geneva has approximately 1,350 students enrolled in its various programs taught by its faculty of nearly 70 members. The college seeks to prepare students to serve Christ and the world in all areas of society, including work, family, and the church. Geneva is a founding member of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).

  • Summary of Responsibilities: The Admissions Counselor will work with a team of two student counselors to recruit prospective students for the College's traditional undergraduate program from an assigned geographic region of the country. This person will serve as a member of the whole Enrollment Services team and will report directly to the Director of Undergraduate Recruitment.

  • Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)
    • Territory management: Develop and maintain relations with high schools, churches, two year colleges, and alumni within the assigned geographic region. As a result, day long and overnight travel will be required.
      • Contact high schools, churches, and two year colleges in order to present information about Geneva and its admission process for prospective students and key influencers.
      • Plan travel arrangements for assigned geographic territory.
      • Represent Geneva at events within assigned geographic territories.
      • Understand the unique characteristics and culture of assigned territory.
    • Prospect management: Achieve assigned enrollment goals by finding, counseling and managing prospective students through their college search.
      • Conduct individual counseling/interviewing of prospective students and their parents on campus.
      • Contact prospective students directly through calling, emailing, social networking, and writing personal notes in order to help the students throughout the matriculation process.
      • Respond to student questions in a timely manner.
      • Give tours of campus occasionally.
      • Help review student files for admittance or denial to Geneva.
      • Hold an active role in special event days such as open houses, scholarship days, Athletic Days, etc.
    • Student Counselor management - Manage at least two student admissions counselors.
      • Train students.
      • Supervise student work.
      • Regularly evaluate student performance.
      • Facilitate student learning and professional development through practical admissions work experience.
      • Maintain an active workload for student admissions counselors.
    • Miscellaneous
      • Performs other duties as assigned, or as it is clear that they need to be done.
  • Supervision:
  • Supervise student employees to include training, planning, assigning and directing work, and coaching, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Must have a mindset of mentoring employees under supervision. Should be able to lead in a way that sets a good example, promotes teamwork, and encourages a positive, efficient work environment.

Position Requirements

Administrative:

  • General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  • Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  • Physical: Must be able to perform the following: talking, hearing, and seeing. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, fax machines, copy machines, modems, and telephones. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum:
    • Education/Certification: Bachelors degree
    • Experience: One year of work or volunteer experience in the fields of admission counseling, public relations, sales, marketing, or counseling. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, particularly on the topic of the value of Christian higher education.
    • Skill/Abilities:
    • Articulate your personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
    • High level of professionalism and attention to detail.
    • Positive attitude and strong communication (written and oral) skills.
    • Maintain complete and accurate files and records on prospects.
    • Strong public speaking ability.
    • Operate a PC.
    • Maintain a driver’s license and insurability status.
    • Availability to travel for extended periods of time away from campus.
    • Relate easily to high school students and their families.
    • Ability to utilize social networking sites in the recruitment process.
  • Christian Commitment: Eligible candidates must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience: One to two years of Admission Counseling experience in a higher education setting.
