Director, Public Relations & Executive Communications 

Description

The Director of Public Relations and Executive Communications will oversee key strategic initiatives of the organization through the development of integrated public relations plans, with a particular focus on earned media relations. This role will focus on generating overall awareness of the LPGA, its business success, its members and LPGA properties and programs. A special emphasis will be placed on securing non-endemic media placements. This role will also provide hands-on communications services; work in partnership with Tour-related communications, others in Brand & Communications and elsewhere in the LPGA to provide a unified, consistent voice; optimize resources / channels and promote our members; provide expert communications counsel; strategic leadership and direction for the LPGAs brand; and develop high-performance professional communicators.

This role will be the primary communications professional to assist and advise the LPGA Commissioner on core messaging as well as speaking or other non-endemic media opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for overall direction of the LPGAs public relations efforts, serving as the associations leader in earned media and PR.
  • Strategically develop player-based public relations plans, packaging and marketing select golfers as brands," targeting select consumer, entertainment and sports media
  • Develop and implement quarterly PR plans to leverage the LPGAs business success, top performing members/players and to elevate the overall LPGA brand
  • Responsible for preparing all interviewees in advance of secured interviews with briefs, Q/A, etc
  • Support the integration of our PR plans with content initiatives and other communications strategies
  • Works with others to develop and execute the brand direction for the LPGA and its Drive On campaign with a primary focus on pushing those Drive On stories beyond the LPGAs channels
  • Serves as LPGA Commissioners primary resource for presentations/speeches; responsible for securing speaking engagements, developing briefs and working with the Commissioner (or other executive staff) to prepare for such appearances
  • Research editorial calendars of select business, sports and consumer publications and develop targeted pitches based on long-lead calendars
  • Fill the grey space in the organization as well as new initiatives such as diversity focused communications, etc.

 

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, liberal arts or a related discipline; advanced degree and/or specialized study in communications
  • 5 to 10 years experience leading a communications function, with special emphasis on integrated communications and public relations
  • Prior supervisory and/or matrix/project management experience strongly preferred
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal skills, and analytical skills required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required
  • Problem solver
  • Must be detail oriented and able to deliver accurate work within established deadlines
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, leading cross-functional efforts
  • Experience with a global enterprise
  • Some experience with brand management/leadership strongly preferred
  • Travel required
