The LPGA, headquarted in Daytona Beach, FL, is currently seeking a full-time Corporate Counsel.  Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Corporate Counsel supports the LPGA team and its mission by providing counsel and advice on daily legal matters, managing on-going legal projects and working pro-actively with team members to help achieve business goals and objectives.  As a critical member of the LPGA Legal Team, this self-motivated, licensed attorney takes initiative and provides thoughtful analysis on a variety of issues.  The workload involves managing complex legal and business projects in a fast-paced setting.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and interpret a variety of agreements, including sponsorship, license, event, vendor, consulting and other transactional documents
  • Draft, review and manage waivers and releases for various events, activities and services
  • Research, develop and implement company policies and procedures to ensure best practices and compliance with legal/regulatory environment
  • Review, draft and advise on promotions, contests and sweepstakes rules
  • Assist in the management and enforcement of LPGA trademarks, copyrights and other intellectual property matters
  • Assist in the review of Americans with Disabilities Act accommodation requests
  • Assist in anti-doping matters including research, CAS analysis and policy drafting
  • Research legal issues related to industry-wide developments and trends, employment law, marketing, social media, immigration, risk management, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned 
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

 

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school required
  • 2-4 years of in-house or corporate/transactional law firm experience (exposure to contract negotiation, intellectual property law and/or licensing preferred)
  • Licensed to practice law in the United States and in good standing (if not licensed in Florida, then ability to qualify for Authorized House Counsel status) 

 

Skills and Characteristics:

 

  • Concrete understanding of basic contract principles and corporate law
  • Familiarity with sports law and intellectual property preferred, experience in technology and/or digital media a plus
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including ability to advise clients clearly and consistently
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to build relationships with a variety of contacts, including outside counsel, senior management and business associates
  • Strong research, analytical and investigative skills; ability to document and present findings in a clear and concise manner
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects, deadlines and initiatives with minimal oversight
  • Exhibit sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • High level of personal integrity and professional ethics
  • Desire to be part of a team
  • Believe and commit to the LPGA culture and organizational goals
  • Passion for sports
  • Ability to travel for business purposes Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and related computer skills
