Bolton & Menk, a regional consulting design firm, has an opportunity for a Planner I to join our Planning & Urban Design Group in our Des Moines office. This position is anticipated to include a significant role in assisting client communities with a variety of community planning services including development review, comprehensive plans, zoning and code updates, smlal area and corridor plans, and related services. In this role you will:
- Assists in developing planning studies, technical memorandums, and reports in support of new and updated plans, programs, regulations, and proposed projects.
- Assist with review of development applications, including variances, subdivisions, and rezonings, and associated permits.
- Research a variety of planning topics based on document review, data collection and analysis, and other methods.
- Assist with community engagement and outreach when developing and reviewing plans, including working with community groups, government agencies, developers, and elected officials.
- Have primary or secondary knowledge and responsibility in planning specilizations related to land use, project communication, transportation, enviornmental, landscape architecture, etc.
- Travel to facilities and other projected related locations as necessary.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in community planning, urban planning, public policy or closely related field from an accredited college with previous internship experience.
- General knowledge and skills in GIS and its planning uses.
- General knowledge in related software (i.e. ArcGIS, MS Excel and Word)
- General knowledge in Adobe Creative Suites.
- Strong skills in client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for service, and evaluation of client satisfaction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent composition, grammar and proofreading skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Excellent problem solving skills.
- Possess a valid driver’s license as travel to various facilities and job sites may be required.
