Summary:

The Staff Accountant's primary responsibilities involve processing (prepare & review) various general accounting functions, including General Ledger JEs, Account Reconciliations, T&E and credit card expenses, Fixed Assets, EOM Closings, backup payroll processing, assisting with management reporting, as well as allocating expenses. A desired candidate has accounting experience, demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently with little supervision, and is detail oriented.

 
Position Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
  • Maintains portions of the general ledger as related to responsible accounts
  • Codes invoices, reconciles accounts, and assists the manager and CFO in closing the monthly books
  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Manages Positive Pay exceptions daily in the banking portal
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts and other financial accounts as required
  • Manages invoice cycles associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Provides CFO with assistance on required cycle audits; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Manages employee expense system (Nexonia) including ensuring expense reports are filed timely with appropriate backup and approvals
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software such as QuickBooks Desktop

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field, required.
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience preferred, but not required
  • QuickBooks experience helpful but not required.
  • Government contract accounting experience helpful but not required.
  • Familiarity with Windows 10, Office 365, SharePoint, Teams helpful but not required.
