About the Organization Cornerstone Energy Services, Inc. provides engineering, survey and land services to the energy infrastructure marketplace. We provide a broad range of services critical to the initial phases of projects, right through completion and documentation. These services include: process, civil, mechanical and I&E engineering, project management, survey and mapping, and Right-of-Way acquisition. We have expertise and experience in both long linear projects as well as single-site facilities. Our clients are developers and operators of oil and gas pipelines and electric transmission lines.

Position Requirements

Essential Functions

GIS Analyst responsibilities include the following:

  • Creates maps and graphs, using GIS software and related equipment.
  • Meets with users to define data needs, project requirements, required outputs, or to develop applications.
  • Conducts Research to locate and obtain existing databases.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and integrates spatial data from staff and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS.
  • Compiles geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
  • Designs and updates database, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations.
  • Enters new map data using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.
  • Analyzes geographic relationships among varying types of data.
  • Prepares metadata and other documentation.
  • Present information to users and answer questions.
  • Retrieve stored maps.
  • Ability to provide guidance QA/QC oversight to other map personnel.
  • Completes professional level work assignments.
  • Completes the most challenging technical or analytical project tasks.
  • Uses advanced technical expertise for problem solving.
  • Provides expert level support and advice to management.
  • May be acknowledged or sort out by others for technical knowledge or leadership.
  • Performs tasks or duties that are considered precursory to management position.
  • Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria using judgement in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  • Duties are largely performed in an office.
  • Office work may include prolonged seated tasks, extended keyboarding, and use of computer screen.
  • May be requested to work overtime and weekends.
  • Position requires travel (expected to be less than 10%); valid driver’s license and acceptable DMV record required.

Physical requirements

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use stairs, use hands, reach, talk and hear.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrate the ability to perform all key qualifications of a GIS Analyst I.
  • Excellent attention to detail and observation skills, ability to detect small errors in large datasets.
  • Ability to work among different digital data formats, datums, and projections.
  • Assists with sales and marketing, such as draft proposal and marketing materials, assists in project setup, database design, and cost estimation.
  • Manages software licenses, and/or troubleshoots software issues.
  • Researches new software solutions.
  • Develops, documents, and implements workflows for new tasks and applications as they arrive.
  • May represent the company at client meetings, conferences, and trade shows.
  • Flexibility to assist in other areas as needed with minimal assistance.

Experience and Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in surveying, geography, geology, geospatial, remote sending, mathematics, or other science or technical degree; or experience equivalent to job responsibilities.
  • Six years of related job experience.
  • Proficiency with GIS software such as ArcView or MapInfo.
  • Experience with CAD software, Google Earth, Global Mapper a plus.
  • Solid understanding of mapping principles.
