Summary:

The Operations Specialist supports the Army Women's Museum by managing workflow and optimizing day-to-day activities. The U.S. Army Women's Museum honors women's contributions to the Army while providing educational opportunities, military history training, and instruction to soldiers. Operations Specialists are detailed oriented people with an ability to see the big picture and are integral to the success of the organization.

Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Opening and closing the facility

  • Monitoring security of museum property, ensuring visitor safety and operation of equipment

  • Maintaining appointment calendar; setting up and scheduling theater for film viewing

  • Greeting and directing over 15 groups of visitors to gallery areas each day

  • Orienting visitors to changing exhibits

  • Conducting specialized orientations and programs, tours for the general public, and training for Soldiers

  • Answering telephone and distributing email from the web daily

  • Tracking visitor numbers and conducting visitor survey

  • Assisting with museum's certification

  • Completing monthly reports

  • Assisting with monthly inventory of artifact collection and office equipment, sorting and cataloging museum documents and entering information into database

  • Digitizing documents for museum and researchers, responding to research questions (currently 50-75 per month), locating documents for researchers

  • Copying, scanning, and providing images

  • Creating, printing. and distributing flyers and brochures

  • Preparing educational packets for K-12 programs

  • Preparing and sending correspondence

  • Maintaining administrative files in accordance with Army regulations prepare museum for monthly special events

  • Overseeing volunteer program, assisting with creation of temporary exhibits; maintaining shared digital storage drive, and assisting with educational programming

  • Presenting to large groups

Required Qualifications:

  • One year experience with museum tours and/or visitor services experience

  • Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to present and speak before large groups

  • Ability to work an alternating weekend work schedule

  • Ability to work with minimum guidance

  • Able to stand, walk or bend for long periods at a time

  • Able to lift up to 45 pounds

  • Basic knowledge of MS Office computer programs

  • Desired Qualifications:

Clearance: Must pass a Tier 1 investigation that has been favorably adjudicated by the DoD CAF (or locally) for CAC eligibility and network access (IT-3 access for government.mil email account).
