This is a technical laboratory position with the function to assist in providing new material solutions for the design of new products. The chemist in this position will work closely with senior lab personnel to synthesize and characterize new polymers as well as assess the suitability for application in various product areas. The work is performed under the direction of the Technical Manager, Polymer Science.

Position Requirements
  • Ability to follow synthetic procedures to develop new materials in order to create prototypes for application feasibility (polymers, varnish blends, composites, sol-gels, etc.).
  • Characterize polymers and/or composite materials via physical testing
  • Develop and monitor process conditions during the development of new materials that provides for control and reproducibility of key materials parameters.
  • Administer the appropriate project management systems to maintain reporting and status updates
  • Summarizes data in reports and/or presentations at regular intervals. Documents experimental work in a lab notebook using established best practices.
  • Ensures all ISO requirements are met and produces the necessary documentation to maintain compliance.
  • Follows Chemical Hygiene plan and looks for safety improvements.


  • Strong in Organic/Polymer Chemistry

  • Able to carry out and learn appropriate synthetic procedures

  • Able to carry out analytical and material property testing

  • Motivated to learn how to design new materials

  • Rigorously follows EH&S and laboratory procedures

  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills

  • Good writing , reporting and presentation skill


  • Prefer M.S. degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer or materials science and B.S. in one of the corresponding physical science disciplines mentioned; 0-2 years experience with some background in synthesis related to new materials. B.S. in disciplines above with 5-7 years experience in polymer synthesis will also be considered

Provide regular verbal and written project/results updates and communicate timeline/status for assigned tasks.

-Polymer Science Team

Develops strong working relationships with current members involved with synthesis of new materials and is open to taking direction and mentoring by senior staff.

-Analytical Scientist

Develop a strong working relationship in which he/she learns from experienced scientists how to conduct testing

-Development Team Scientist

Develop an integrated knowledge of product formulation and component level understanding of material contributions to performance targets in order to support new product design by development teams.

-Pilot Plant/Process Engineer

Work closely with engineers to safely and efficiently scale up new materials. Guides the appropriate testing in process and sets final QC measures.
