Job Summary

  1. This position is responsible for the conceptualization, planning and execution of inventive creative design solutions for all departments of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization



  1. Primary:
  2. Design print, outdoor and web ads for various marketing initiatives; also participate in integration of said concepts into television commercials.
  3. Conceptualize, plan and execute designs for logos, tickets, brochures, direct mail, invitations, signage and other collateral pieces for sales departments, all within set time frames.
  4. In coordination with others in the design group, design and layout pages of Pirates publications, including but not limited to Media Guide, Yearbook, and First Pitch Magazine.
  5. Participate in brainstorming sessions with creative team in order to establish a cohesive advertising campaign each season.
  6. Keeping in mind the priorities of individual departments, establish and adhere to a defined and realistic delivery schedule related to the department's goals and the goals of the organization as a whole.
  7. Ensure that all creative design solutions meet the standards defined in the Pirates' brand style guide.
  8. Effectively communicate design rationale and concepts to department leadership.
  9. Work closely with outside agencies, contractors, printers and other vendors as required, advising and policing Pirates branding & logo usage.
  10. Maintain an up-to-date library of all art elements, including team marks/logos, and photos.
  11. Stay abreast of developments and trends in visual arts, graphic design and software.
  12. Other duties as assigned by Marketing Department Leadership.


  1. Facilitate photo shoots, both with team photographer and within the department when appropriate.
Position Requirements


  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Art/Design with a minimum of two years’ experience in Graphic Design (or) a minimum of 4 years’ experience in Graphic Design.
  2. Creative experience with a well-developed portfolio in print signage, visual mediums and delivery mechanisms.
  3. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.
  4. Working knowledge and experience with Apple computers.
  5. Working knowledge of file preparation for pre-press delivery & production processes.


  1. Graphic Design experience in a sports or entertainment setting.
  2. Photography skills.
  3. Drawing skills.
