About the Organization The mission of Fenway Health is to enhance the wellbeing of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and all people in our neighborhoods and beyond through access to the highest quality health care, education, research, and advocacy. Fenway Health was founded in 1971 and has grown from a less than 10 person operation in the basement of a building near the Boston Fens to one of the largest LGBT-focused organizations in the world. It consists of three main centers:

• Fenway Community Health Center, our clinical arm, which is a federally qualified health center that operates three clinic sites (Fenway:1340, Fenway:South End, and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center) in the Boston area and provides over 30,000 patients with primary and specialty medical care, behavioral health care, optometry care, and dental care;

• The Fenway Institute, our research/training/education/policy development arm, which houses numerous research initiatives as well as the National LGBT Education Project, the LGBT Aging Project, the National Center for Innovation in HIV Care, and the Center for Population Research in LGBT Health; and

• AIDS Action, our HIV/AIDS service organization, which provides nonclinical services (case management, housing and legal assistance, outreach, peer support) to people living with HIV/AIDS and operates numerous programs focusing on HIV/STD prevention/testing/treatment, including the Access (drug user health program), TransCEND (transgender peer support and risk reduction program), and Youth on Fire (drop-in center for homeless and street-involved youth) programs.

Description

Please note that this position is Temporary Part-time and based at an AIDS Action Committee Site.

Under the supervision of the Manager of NHBS Field Operations (Prevention Manager), the Field Interviewer/HIV Tester will conduct behavioral interviews in English with men who have sex with men (MSM). This position includes variable nighttime and weekend hours in assorted Boston area venues and is part of a national project of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Representative Duties:
1. Learn study protocol.
2. Conduct accurate venue attendance counts.
3. Effectively recruit randomly selected respondents at assorted indoor and outdoor venues in the Boston area.
4. Conduct in-depth screening and structured interviews with survey respondents, using tablet computers.
5. Communicate clearly during face-to-face interviews.
6. Effectively discuss participants’ sexual behavior histories and drug and alcohol use.
7. Conduct rapid HIV tests with participants and deliver HIV test results.
8. Provide participants with referrals for medical and social services as needed.
9. Maintain meticulous paper records.
10. Meet with Field Supervisor and team on a regular basis to resolve issues and assist with other program development/implementation needs.

Position Requirements

• Knowledge of HIV and AIDS essential.
• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or 2 years’ experience working with MSM.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and responsible self-starter.
• Experience conducting face-to-face interviews.
• Excellent reading, verbal communication and people skills.
• Experience and comfort with members of various sexual communities and communities of color.
• Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-cultural environments.
• Must be familiar with computers.
• Bilingual English/Spanish speakers strongly encouraged to apply.
• MSM and People of Color encouraged to apply
