GENERAL PURPOSE

The Director of Global Student Programs' ('Director') key role is to support international students, active and prospective, with all facets of the Concordia Experience. The Director will focus on developing activities and programs to increase international student engagement and partnerships with the campus community. Serving as a resource for the Student Experience office to be the liaison with other departments, the Director will assess and communicate the key issues faced by international students and strategically plan to overcome them.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as an administrative coordinator for all programming initiatives for international students created in concert with Kings Education

  • Capture student data in CRM to analyze data and use to inform actions

  • Market various programs and events designed to engage students and the broader college community with a special focus on events that integrate both domestic and international students

  • Serve as a resource to the College campus departments on key issues faced by international students prior to and after arrival at Concordia College

  • Address daily issues of international students as well as admitted prospective students

  • Provide advice to the active students when it comes to strategic thinking and planning for academic success

  • Work with Enrollment, Kings Education and Student Experience Offices and institutional partners, assess through surveys and other methods, the effectiveness of current programming efforts and use data to improve events and activities.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Incoming Students and Vocational Planning on career and vocations, and provide advice regarding CPT and OPT placements of international students

  • Serve as Frist Year Student advisor for incoming international students

  • Collaborate with Marketing Department and Enrollment Office to update and create user-friendly pages for international students, both current and prospective

  • Update information and arrange for arrival, moving in to housing and orientation and work closely with the Director of Student Experience. Respond to various non-SEVIS, non-academic needs of international students upon arrival

  • Follow up with all newly admitted international students regarding their arrival information and orientation needs

  • Assist with implementation of New International Student Orientation, working with other offices to coordinate the orientation schedule

  • Act as a key-role in supporting international students, current and prospective, in their adjustment and adaptation to Student Experience

  • Create programs for international students which consist of but are not limited to social, academic and career exploration

  • Collaborate with CSP (Coordinator of Student Programming) on joint programming

  • Serve as primary academic liaison for international students, monitoring academic reports and connecting students to on-campus resources

  • Coordinate registration, placement tests, and cultural adjustment services for exchange and new undergraduate students

  • Attend continuing education workshops, seminars, webinars or other training programs in order to keep informed of current changes in laws, regulations and best practices

  • Assist Enrollment Office in establishing and maintaining appropriate communication sequence with prospective international students

  • Assist the Director of Incoming Students and Vocational Planning and Senior Director of Student Experience with various administrative tasks to help all students and serve as a liaison for the International Student Body

  • Support and encourage retention of international student population, including assisting applicants with visas and other required documentation

  • Serve as the Advisor to the International Students Club, Student Ambassadors and Club leaders. Work closely with these student groups to coordinate events

  • Create, plan and market events for international students

  • Play an active role in all Student Experience Team Meetings

 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in International Education, International Business, International Relations or related field

  • Bilingual preferred

  • Minimum of five (5) years working with international students

  • Understanding and affinity for the mission of Concordia College

  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication skills; self- initiative and self –motivation

  • Organization and ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines

  • Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and social networking tools

  • A team focus and ability to work with large groups

  • Willingness and availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
