Art: Environment Art Lead 

Description

ArenaNet is looking for an experienced, hands-on Environment Art Lead to join our growing team and help us create expansive, beautiful worlds. In this role, you will be responsible for providing leadership to our growing environment team through exemplary, hands-on production work, sharing best practices, and helping to develop the art pipeline as we build powerful, new tools and features.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with concept art, designers, and the art director to transform high level concepts into production-ready game spaces
  • Interpret concept art and devise building plans for how the team should translate the 2D art into game assets
  • Disseminate best practices to the team based on your previous experience as well as developing new techniques, unique to our proprietary pipeline
  • Proactively seek feedback regarding style, mood, and functionality, as well as help coach team members toward that vision
  • Work with tech art and tool programmers to help develop the pipeline required to quickly and artfully build large, open-world environments
  • Contribute to the creation of bar-setting in-game assets as well as design-influenced gray box play-spaces using a combination of commercial and proprietary tools
  • Work with engineers and tech artists to help define the requirements for authoring tools, workflows, and pipelines
  • Coach and guide team members toward identifying and working on their strengths and weaknesses, as well as helping to expanding their skill sets

Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of experience in environment art production on a commercial, shipped PC or console game
  • At least 2 years of experience as an environment lead or similar level senior contributor
  • Strong portfolio of large game areas you’ve both overseen and had a direct hand in making
  • Artistic eye and solid layout skills
  • Fast iteration skills, comfortable with rapid prototyping and gray-boxing
  • Proficiency in Maya (preferred), Photoshop and Zbrush
  • Experience with PBR art creation workflows and tools
  • Familiarity with environment editors like Unreal, Unity, Crytek, Source etc.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative team player
  • Able to give and take critique well
  • Passion for games and the game creation process
  • Fun to work with
