The Appeals Coordinator is responsible for supporting Alliance’s Medicaid and State Utilization Management appeals process. Typical tasks include coordinating appeals by recipients for denials of service, ensuring timely processing of appeal requests and related letter notifications, providing support and information to recipients that are involved with the appeal process. Ensuring compliance with Alliance’s policies and procedures, as well as, State and Federal regulations related to Due Process, and reporting on statistics related to the functions of Utilization Review

Helpful knowledge for this position includes: Due Process as it related to Medicaid and State funded services, legal proceedings including mediation, medical records and their maintenance, and an overall understanding of Utilization Review, Utilization Management, and Managed Care Organization functions.

Position Requirements

High school and four years experience with medical records or patient records in Behavioral Healthcare or Healthcare field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the essential knowledge and abilities to perform the job.

About the Organization Alliance Behavioral Healthcare manages the public mental health, intellectual/ developmental disability and substance abuse services for the citizens of Durham, Wake, Cumberland and Johnston counties. Although we do not actually provide services, our job is to ensure that individuals who seek help receive the quality services and supports they are eligible for to help them achieve their goals and live as independently as possible. These services are delivered by a network of private providers who contract with Alliance.
