Parent Education Coordinator

Under direction from the Social Services Director, the Parent Education Coordinator will work with community partners to coordinate parent education activities in Williams County. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position.  Incumbents may not be required to perform all duties in this description, and incumbents may be required to perform position-specific tasks other than those listed in this job description.

  • Maintain parenting programs that comply with the Child Abuse Prevention guidelines as provided in the DHS grant to all PRC’s in ND.
  • Identify and address community needs for parent education and support, through a process that involves parents and local public agencies, local nonprofit organizations, and private sector representatives.
  • Facilitate networking among community leaders and other youth and family serving agencies and advisory groups to identify needs and concerns upon which to base educational programs.
  • Provide organized, planned efforts designed to assist parents or primary caregivers to strengthen their knowledge and skills and enhance understanding and performance of positive parenting practices.
  • Maintain a resource library and serve as a clearinghouse of family education materials.
  • Collaborate with school systems and their parent involvement and education needs.
  • Obtain and manage additional grants as available for the mission of the PRC work.
  • Recruit and train parent education trainers to provide programming as identified in needs assessments, as well as personally teaching some of the programs.
  • Provide referrals to social services and community supports to meet the additional needs of families.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities that enhance personal and professional effectiveness.
  • Provide a mid-term and annual report during the grant year which follows the established format.
Position Requirements

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Program development and educational design skills to assess needs and issues and develop, deliver and evaluate comprehensive learning experiences that help diverse youth and adult audiences enhance their lives and communities.
  • Communication skills in listening, developing and conveying a clear concise message appropriate for the audience and for working effectively with others.
  • Organizational management skills including the ability to conduct oneself professionally, be self-directed in the work environment, work individually or with a team, work flexible and extended hours, and manage time and resources, and keep good records to effectively accomplish the duties of the position.
  • Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, an interest and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to the principles of diversity.
  • Ability to transport educational materials and audio visual equipment to teach at remote sites.
  • Information and educational technology skills necessary to reach and teach diverse audiences, work and communicate effectively, manage time and resources, and enhance one’s ability to find, evaluate, and disseminate information.


Education, Experience and License/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Family and Consumer Sciences, Education, Psychology, Social Work or other area related to the position responsibilities.   An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Personal vehicle and valid driver’s license.

Compensation for this position ranges from $17-$21 depending on experience and training. Williams County provides generous benefits to full-time regular employees: paid sick and vacation leave, a fully paid health/dental/vision benefit plan for single, single-plus-dependent or family contracts, term life insurance of $25,000, 100% contribution toward retirement benefits through the ND Public Employees Retirement System (15.26%), and 11 paid holidays each year.
