Outreach Ambassadors - Citi Bike 


About Citi Bike:

New York City's bike share system, Citi Bike, is a self-service system, stocked with thousands of bikes at hundreds of stations located throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan.  Citi Bike is designed to be convenient, easy-to-use and affordable for New Yorkers and visitors alike, allowing members to pick up a bike close to home or work, ride, and then return it to any station in the system.  Less than a year since the program opened, Citi Bike has proven wildly popular for New Yorkers to get around and visitors to explore the City.  

Overview of Position:

We are looking to fill our team of Outreach and Event Ambassadors with talented, outgoing and dedicated people. Ambassadors will help New Yorkers and tourists understand how to use Citi Bike, increase our sales of Citi Bike 24-hour and 7-day passes and help staff special events throughout the summer.  

Applicants must be team-players available to work irregular hours and must have experience working with the general public.  Spanish and Mandarin speakers are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Aspects of Position:

  • Help facilitate purchases of casual passes at Citi Bike stations and educate casual pass users about how the system works
  • Demonstrate bike features, removal and return procedures for bikes, kiosk signup and pricing
  • Report any graffiti, litter or maintenance issues with stations to our Operations Team
  • Sell memberships
  • Staff occasional special events (corporate membership sign-ups, festivals, street fairs, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record (must pass motor vehicle record check)
  • Willingness to promote the NYC Bike Share brand and spirit
  • Experience interacting with very large groups of consumers ranging from kids to adults
  • Knowledge of bicycling in NYC
  • Ability to take direction well and memorize basic facts about the system
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Comfortable in a fast paced environment
  • Comfortable standing, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Excitement and interest in bike sharing is a must!

Availability Requirements:

  • This is a Seasonal position running from the end of May through the end of the summer
  • There will be an opportunity for selected candidates to start in the beginning of May and continue on a part-time basis through the end of September
  • Weekday, evening and weekend shifts are available

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Living or working experience with public housing residents
  • Experience with bikes, bike safety and special events
  • College degree is a plus
  • Spanish and Mandarin speakers are strongly encouraged to apply
