Bicycle sharing is a sustainable, healthy, and community-based transport option that enhances urban livability and mobility. Under contract with the City of Chicago DOT, Chicago Bike Share is excited to announce the beginning of its operations  and seeks to fill several key leadership roles leading up to system launch of 300 stations and 3000 bikes..

Job Summary

Chicago Bike Share is seeking a talented Station Service Department Manager who will be responsible for all activities from preparing for launch to managing the Chicago Bike Share system on an ongoing basis.  This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing bike station programming, troubleshooting, and repair and to ensure bike stations are in good working condition, 24/7. The Station Service Department Manager will have overall responsibility for station operability and cleanliness as well as training and oversight of Station Technicians to assist with the work. Expert-level training on technical aspects of bike station hardware and software will be provided.

Primary Responsibilities             

  • Receive training on programming, repair, and maintenance of Chicago bike stations from expert-level station technician.
  • Oversee programming of all bike stations.
  • Assist with assembly and deployment of bike stations. Finalize on-street programming.
  • Ensure 24/7 station functionality and operability; ensure stations are repaired as needed.
  • Ensure regular station and electronic cleaning and maintenance as required.
  • Hire and train other station technicians to assist with maintenance, repairs, and cleaning.
  • Manage and schedule a team of station technicians
  • Manage station parts inventory, ordering parts as needed within an assigned budget.
  • Manage shipping, receiving, returns of station parts, and maintain accurate records.
  • Occasionally work irregular hours as required.
  • Assist with “on-call” duties as assigned.
  • Work under the guidance of the Operations Manager.
Position Requirements


  • Computer hardware, electronics and/or electrical experience required.  College degree preferred in related field.
  • Experience managing and training others.
  • Experience managing a budget and inventory.
  • Technical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. (must pass a motor vehicle record check)
  • Comfortable driving, stopping and working in busy outdoor urban environments.
  • Knowledge of Chicago-area geography.
  • Interpersonal skills - the individual will maintain confidentiality, remain open to others' ideas and exhibit willingness to try new things.
  • Adaptability - the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.  
  • Dependability - the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.
  • Excitement and interest in bike sharing a must.
  • Job may require travel.
  • Job may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week.
  • May require bending, stooping, lifting up to 35 pounds.
