Security Engineer

Saint Louis, MO

Reporting to the Director of Information Systems, explore this exciting opportunity at Aclara where the successful candidate will be responsible for performing penetration tests of Aclara’s systems and for reviewing security configurations of Aclara’s environments. The Security Engineer will work closely with IS Management, developers and IT Operations to diagnose, document, and remediate application and infrastructure security vulnerabilities.

 

The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with an ability to communicate and document complex security issues for a range of audiences including developers, system administrators, and management.  The candidate needs to be innovative, resourceful, self-directed, and enjoy working in a rapidly changing technical environment.

 

Essential functions & responsibilities of the Security Engineer include:

  • Perform manual application penetration tests, coordinate 3rd party penetration tests
  • Assist Director of Information Systems with user access reviews and audits.
  • Test for application vulnerabilities such as cross-site scripting, SQL injection, directory traversal, authentication bypass, and command injection.
  • Perform vulnerability scans on systems and applications.
  • Evaluate firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems and associated configurations
  • Document vulnerabilities and work with Information Security Officer, developers and system administrators on vulnerability mitigation.
  • Support existing security solutions and partner with the Information Security Officer for the implementation and integration of any new enhancements made to existing security solutions in support of improving overall enterprise security.
  • Ensure security tools and solutions hardware/software/devices are operating effectively and updated in a timely manner.
  • Support the maintenance and deployment of new security solutions in multiple data centers.
  • Support remote access and multi-factor technologies to internal/external users.
  • Ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the data residing on or transmitted to/from/through enterprise networks.
  • Perform ticket queue monitoring, resolution and prioritization, maintain diagrams and documentation as appropriate and support firewall rule set reviews, auditing and maintenance activities.
  • Assist IS Management with Disaster Recovery management, coordination and planning.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Mentor the IT Operations staff
  • Provide upper-tier and overflow support for end user issues during normal and after hours
 
Position Requirements

 

A minimum of a Bachelor’s or higher level degree in Computer Science or related Computer Engineering field is required.  Also required are three (3) or more years of experience with network security & related monitoring tools and solutions. Five (5) or more years of experience with firewalls and knowledge of IP networking and network security including Intrusion Detection, DMZ, encryption, IPSec, PKI, VPNs, MPLS/VPN, Site to Site VPN tunnels, SSL/VPN, proxy services, and DNS are preferred.  Candidates must have at least one of the following technical product training and certifications, network hardware and application security training and/or certifications: CCNA, CCSA, CISSP, Security+, Network+, ISA, PCIP or other industry accepted security certifications. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with network security & related monitoring tools and solutions and firewall configuration, as well as network routing, switching, packet analysis.  Candidates must have exceptional planning, organization, communication, presentation, multi-tasking, prioritization, business analysis skills and the ability to work independently in addition to working closely in a team environment.  This position will require frequent walking, bending squatting, pushing, pulling and the ability to lift 50lbs.
