Reports to: Marine Superintendent
This position is responsible for assisting the captain in towing, docking and unloading of the barge and other vessels, from port-to-port.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
Assists the Master in the responsibilities and accountability for the safe operation of the vessel according to the policies and the procedures outlined in the Marine Operations Manual Safety Management System.
While the Master is off-watch, directs crew in all aspects of vessel operations including safe navigation, shipboard training and drills (emergency preparedness), general and preventative maintenance of vessel machinery and operating systems.
Steers, operates, pushes and pull barges as directed by the Master to its perspective destination. Almost all operations are conducted in environmentally sensitive areas.
Performs highly skilled operations in navigation including focused attention on water depth, weather, surging, traffic, keeping tow wire clear of the bottom.
Operates proficiently winches and other deck machinery. Understand the operating limitations of the vessel’s main engines, generators, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, firefighting and lifesaving equipment and steering gear systems and controls.
