CAT II Arabic Linguists shall provide interpretation and translation services as required by the supported forces. Linguists will be required to transcribe and/or translate source material, both printed and audio; provide analysis and reporting of translated foreign language source material. Typically works as part, of or may lead a team of linguists.

Arabic Linguists will be supporting 24/7 missions and shift work may therefore be required depending on the mission support requirements. These shifts may include four (4) days a week, ten (10) hours per day, five (5) days a week, 8 (eight) hours per day; or similar types of shift schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide foreign language support services, including transcription, translation, and interpretation services (comprising written idiomatic translations of non-technical voice and graphic materials using correct syntax and expression from English to the target language(s) or vice versa) in support of military interrogations, intelligence collection, and other operational missions
• Provide any and all cultural and ethnic context of translations, interpretations, and transcriptions with an expert linguist's opinion given to the supported organization or agency as to the most likely meaning/intent of terms, phrases, or statements that may have multiple valid interpretations
• Perform document exploitation, scan, research, and analyze foreign language documents and intercepted data for key information
• Supplement interpretations and translations with information pertinent and specific to professional fields; such as medicine, scientific, engineering, legal, etc. and identify and extract information components meeting military information requirement list criteria
• Prepare and update databases of translated source material
• Operate customer furnished monitor/recording equipment
• Participate in analytical meetings or conferences when applicable
• Provide input to and draft product reports
• Provide quality control of junior linguist transcribed and translated material


Position Requirements

Required Education and Experience
• Native proficiency in Arabic preferred, not required
• Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level 3/3 (Listening/Reading) in Arabic and a working proficiency in English (ILR level writing 2 based on the DLPT 4)
• Able to understand the essentials of all speech in a standard dialect and to follow accurately the essentials of conversations between educated native speakers, understand radio broadcasts, news stories similar to wire service reports, oral reports, some oral technical reports and public addresses on non-technical subjects
• Able to produce idiomatic translations of non-technical material using correct syntax and expression from English to target language and vice versa, with the meaning and intent of the original source preserved
• Able to write comprehensibly in English and choose the equivalent expression into the required target language that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the source language
• Able to supplement interpretations and translations with information pertinent and specific to professional fields such as medicine, scientific, engineering, legal, etc.
• Able to conduct consecutive and accurate translations, transcription, and interpretation of on-going conversations/activities and intelligence activities to/from target language using colloquial and slang words and phrases
• Able to accurately provide the cultural and ethnic context of translations and interpretations and advise on the cultural and ethnic significance of statements, conversations, situations, documents, etc.
• Able to accurately perform document exploitation (scan, research, and analyze foreign language documents for intelligence information and identify/extract information components meeting military information requirement list criteria

Computer Skills
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite

Security Clearance
• SECRET security clearance and CI polygraph, or interim SECRET clearance*

* This interim access is not transferable to other government contracts or agencies. All CAT II linguists will be vetted by Government designated personnel in accordance with the Department of the Army Contract Linguist Personnel Security Investigation and CI-Focused Security Review.
