Description

Project Job Title: Language Instructor – Foreign Language, Regional Expertise, and Cultural Training
Language: Spanish
Location: Hurlburt Field, FL

Summary
Provide language, regional and culture instructions at all levels of proficiency. Instruction will include the development of (in order of importance) speaking, listening, reading, and writing communicative competence in general and military topics as required by the Program of Instruction (POI) and sustainment and enhancement according to individual student needs. The Instructor will conduct weekly assessments of the students' progress. Upon completion of course students will take the 2-skill Oral Proficiency Interview (official measure of capability) and the Defense Language Proficiency Test.

An overall POI will be provided for the course, however contractor will have individual training plans for each student that focuses on the following:

2.1.1. Building rapport/relationships
2.1.2. Make self-introductions (custom and courtesies, talk about self / family / job / hobbies, directions, basic food, weather, etc.)
2.1.3. Interact with natives in order to satisfy simple daily needs
2.1.4. Conduct simple negotiations in terms of encouraging exchange of information for items of interest to local population
2.1.5. Describe people, places, and objects
2.1.6. Describe items and locations which facilitate maps, road signs, and directions
2.1.7. Utilize necessary information about culture practices which enable them to interact in culturally appropriate manner in various circumstances and locations such as in restaurants, the marketplace, and with military counterparts.
2.1.8. Use appropriate language and vocabulary to conduct training (incorporate lesson plans from unit)
2.1.9. Utilize pertinent vocabulary in order to carry out basic document exploitation and daily operations.
2.1.10. Recognize military ranks and jobs in host nation
2.1.11. Ability to access a threat. (What foreigners live in this area? When is the last time you saw them? What country are they from?, etc)
2.1.12. Recognize common terms used to refer to a threat (Aka, what do they call a bomb, how do they refer to a gun, where would they put a knife, etc)
2.1.13. Important survival commands

Training materials shall be provided by the Government. The Instructor shall use DLI Basic Course's, commercial, and authentic materials for French and utilize/incorporate CL-150 and Rapid Rote lists. Communication and role playing methods will be used. The Instructor will be authorized to use additional materials in order to meet course objectives, however, additional materials will require prior approval form the Customer.

 

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience
• Minimum of one (1) years combined experience in language education and methodology at the secondary level or higher (200 classroom hours) and a Bachelor degree in education, language, or a closely related field preferred
• Proficiency in the target language. Interagency Language Round Table (ILR) level 3 or higher in the speaking, reading, and listening modalities.
• Proficiency in English. Completion formal study of the English Language with sufficient proficiency of at least ILR level 2
• Fully knowledgeable of the target culture and current usage of the language.
• Familiar with the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Proficiency Levels and how they relate to proficiency-based instruction; with the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and Defense Language Proficiency Tests (DLPT);
• Experience developing and delivering language courses for both platform and e-learning delivery from refresher through advanced levels; focusing on reading, listening, speaking skills, and non-standard language usage.
• Experience preparing and presenting language platform instruction within a learning center environment.

Computer Skills
• Proficient in PC-based computers, Microsoft Office Suite, Windows Explorer, installing and enabling foreign fonts, and common media players (e.g. Windows Media Player, Real Player).
• Familiar with common PC driven projectors, and SMART Boards as they relate to modern instructional delivery.
• Proficient with client specific software.


• Knowledgeable in Distributed Learning and E-learning, Web-based language learning and testing programs.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Implement and develop structured language instruction (Sustainment/Enhancement) to U.S. Government students, emphasizing on the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing communicative skills.
2. Prepare course materials and authentic instructional materials; developing and implementing communicative, task-based, student-centered, and proficiency-oriented learning activities in accordance with course requirements.
3. Explain concepts clearly and coherently to students and provide constructive feedback to students in a timely manner.
4. Assist with the evaluation of students and academic counseling as necessary.
5. Training types will include survival, familiarization, language/regional expertise/cultu
