Description Summary
Senior Chinese Cryptologic Linguists shall perform voice tasks at final quality control level for some transcripts and translations and shall provide on-line assistance to other linguists. They shall also perform graphic tasks and produce translations in final format, ensuring that the final version reproduces with absolute exactitude the original text. Senior Cryptologic Linguists shall perform final quality control on some translations produced by other linguists while drafting and editing summaries based on various sources of written communications.

Job Description:
• Transcribe spoken language into either target language or a machine-compatible transliteration system
• Translate spoken language or graphic materials into modern American English in either verbatim or gisted format
• Categorize, prioritize, and scan foreign materials and assign disposition codes in accordance with established guidance
• Draft of SIGINT report as requested
• Review and analyze foreign language materials in light of other source information
• Provide quality control of translated (verbatim and/or gisted) level 3 materials
• Share language expertise
• Participate in analyst-to-analyst exchanges, seminars, and conferences
• Travel in support of the above tasks when requested
• Other duties as assigned
 

Position Requirements Required Education:
• Minimum HS/GED is required. Having an AA is preferred.

Required Skills and Experience:
Senior Chinese linguists' combined foreign language proficiency, target knowledge, and cryptologic experience shall allow them to reconstruct and recover, to the extent feasible, material missing from corrupted voice traffic or graphic text. They shall identify those areas in which more or better research materials are required to support the processing efforts. They shall compile working aids and databases or provide guidance to junior personnel to accomplish these tasks.

• Minimum of 7 years total cryptologic and/or relevant experience and 7 years of experience with Signals Intelligence (SIGINT)
• Minimum of a level 3/3 in Chinese in the required skill (translation from audio or graphic material) defined by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR)
• Sufficient English speaking skills to effectively produce well-written and accurate gists, summaries, translation, and reports in American English
• Excellent command of the foreign language and the specific knowledge, talent, and skills necessary to function independently
• Extensive experience in language, literature, linguistics, or related humanistic fields
• Basic data entry and word processing skills and the ability to use advanced language software programs
• Basic Internet research skills

Citizenship:
US Citizenship required

Clearance:
TS/SCI clearance with current SSBI and CI Polygraph required
