The successful Post Commander duties include but are not limited to the following: 

  • The close supervision of the security personnel on-site, the management of the security program and the day-to-day liaison between the Property Manager and Universal Protection Service.
  • In managing this on-site security force, the Post Commander provides the leadership, direction, guidelines and procedural framework within which the staff will operate.
  •  Must have management, supervisory, communicative and interpersonal skills, and must be able to be flexible and operate on an "emergency/on-call basis".
  • Operates and monitors a variety of CCTVs, radios, alarms, telephones and other electronic devices in the Security Operations Center in order to receive and respond to requests for emergency assistance, and to dispatch police.
  • Serves as the Post Commander, giving guidance, assistance, and training to co-workers.
  • Persons appointed to this position may work on either a rotating or fixed shift basis, which will include nights, weekends, or holidays, and overtime when scheduled.
  • Proficiency, in at least two of the following operational areas: 911, Fire/EMS dispatch, OR Police dispatch.
Position Requirements


  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Current or prior military experience, or college education preferred.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of professional-level experience required. Prior experience in the security industry, law enforcement, military and/or customer service highly desired. Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for an assigned shift.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to concentrate and to react calmly, quickly, and decisively under stressful conditions.
  • Experience in scheduling, operations or other functions of the security industry a plus.
  • Ability to train and coach others, and to effectively enforce post orders, security standards and company policies equitably and consistently.
  • Current state driver's license, clean driving record (no points in prior 3 years), and ability to safely operate a Company vehicle required.
  • Must exhibit exceptional customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to write effective and concise reports in neat, legible handwriting, and using computer (Microsoft Word application and Outlook) is required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including email a considerable plus.
  • Professional, articulate and able to use good independent judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to successfully interact at all levels of the organization, including with clients, while functioning as a team player required.
  • Must be able to clearly speak, understand, read and write English, and provide clear, concise directions.
  • Incumbent must be available to work outside normal shift schedule on an as-needed basis.
  • Must possess a valid Guard License, or have applied and subsequently be issued such a license prior to employment if working in a state where guard license is required.. As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test. Additionally, as a condition of continued employment, employee must maintain current active Guard License at all times, and must carry the license at all times while on duty.

Essential Physical and Mental Functions

  • Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet)
  • Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift
  • Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds
  • Run as needed
  • Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping/fingering while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks
  • Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination
  • Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones
  • Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat;
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills
  • Must be able to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions
  • Must be able to handle pressure of working with high volume general public (constantly to occasionally depending on assignment)
