Out of School Time Site Guide 


Essential Job Functions:

1) Supervision of Students
• Responsible for assisting the Community Site Manager with the supervision, safety and grouping of children at all times.
• Keeps a consistent headcount on all children present and immediately communicates any changes with all other staff.
2) Program Operations
• Assists the Community Site Manager and Assistant Site Manager with planning and activities.
• Occasionally develops and initiates instruction of creative activities and games.
• Communicates effectively with children, parents, staff and supervisors.
• Assists Community Site Manager with arrival and departure procedures.
• Helps prepare for and clean up after activities.
• Assists in the planning and facilitation of afterschool culminating events, performances, and other events including holiday celebrations. 
3) Mentoring and Guidance
• Demonstrates consistent positive interaction with all children, treating them with dignity and respect.
• Articulates clear expectations and holds children accountable for abiding by them.
• Helps children develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth.
• Models and utilizes teachable moments to reinforce appropriate social skills.
4) Compliance
• Inspects and maintains facilities and equipment for safety purposes prior to each activity.
• Follows all rules, regulations, and policies of Big Thought and Dallas ISD, as well as directives from superiors.
• Follows program attendance policy as assigned by Community Site Manager.
• Complies with Thriving Minds After School uniform and dress code.
5) Performs other functions that may be assigned by the Community Site Manager.

Secondary Job Functions:
• Continues professional development and increases knowledge of creative learning by attending training offered by Big Thought.
• Commitment to implementing Big Thought instructional strategies.

Position Requirements

• High school diploma required. College coursework in recreation, child development or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with children is required. 
• Experience in the area of creative arts instruction is preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills: 
• Responsible
• Positive rapport with co-workers.
• Sincere interest in working with children.
• Ability to safely and successfully manage elementary age children.
• Ability to organize and manage basic art, music, drama and recreation activities and performances.
• Flexibility to work a varying schedule.
• Basic first aid skills (training will be provided by Big Thought).

Mental Demands:  Ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  After School Guides are required to stoop, bend,
kneel, walk and reach; some exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures.  At times, lifting of up
to 50 pounds is required. Any work related experience or additional education/training resulting in
acceptable proficiency levels in the above required knowledge, skills, and abilities is an
acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
