Location Ohio- Cleveland  


Basic Function - Manages and directs the overall operation of the SIU department through reporting managers. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for SIU (approx 50 employees)
  • Evaluates performance and recommends salary changes for personnel. 
  • Primary responsibility for staffing decisions of the department.   5%
  • Overall responsibility for proper completion of investigations through managers and Team Leaders. 60%
  • Maintains service standards, reporting procedures, statutory compliance and the efficient operation of the department. 10%
  • Provides continuous training to internal and external personnel. 5%
  • Directs resolution of problems, complaints and general public relation issues, which arise concerning claims/underwriting investigations. 5%
  • Responsible for implementing changes nationally and helps develops and implement policies and procedures. 5%
  • Directs special projects or requests. 5%
  • Primary responsibility in monitoring and controlling allocated/unallocated expenses and budget to include indirect oversight of the vendor relationship.  5%

Position Requirements

Technical Competencies - Incumbent must demonstrate proficiency in skills learned in training.

Demonstrates effective overall performance through consistent evaluations over multiple review periods.

Demonstrates the capability of consistently handling both individual and ring investigations.

Obtains/Maintains education requirements.

Has thorough knowledge of SIU policies and procedures in resolving and/or providing direction to SIU representatives for claims/underwriting investigations.  Is primary source of direction for the company on SIU policies and procedures.

Demonstrates the ability to interpret research and opinions and apply accurately to establish investigative action plans.

Demonstrates understanding of global company knowledge, totality of impact of decisions, and leadership abilities.

Prefer successful completion of one or more of the following:

  • CFE , CPII
  • CIFI
  • FCLA (Fraud Claims Law Associate)
  • Advanced Educational Degree


Additional Competencies - Demonstrates a thorough and consistent pattern of understanding and demonstrating our National General Insurance Point of Difference.

Requires a high degree of initiative, mature judgment, and discretion.  Ability to resolve conflicts and empathize with others is critical.  Negotiation skills are important for resolving issues.

Demonstrates professional oral and written communication skills.  Organization, customer service, and time management skills are critical for this position.

Demonstrates a solid understanding of insurance law as it relates to claims/underwriting investigations.  Demonstrates the ability to find answers to more complex issues with insurance law and is a source of direction / assistance for the company.

Demonstrates a solid understanding of the insurance industry and organizational relationships of the company.  Also, demonstrates an understanding of the functions of other departments, such as Policy Ops and Marketing.

Demonstrates effective leadership skills.

Develops process management and analytical skills.

Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate vision and strategy to execute on the company and department’s plans and objectives.

Will lead department projects
