A Paramedic/Firefighter’s main objective is to provide firefighting, fire protection and emergency response services as directed by operations and/or Supervisor. Ensure that injured workers are provided with immediate and professional standby and emergent onsite Advanced Life Support (ALS) medical care, and to advise and/or arrange timely transport to a health care facility as needed.


Duties listed below that may be assigned or performed, but are not limited to are:
•Read, understand and comply with all pertinent/applicable HSE/client safety policies and procedures, as well as all applicable OH&S regulatory requirements
•Provide standby/emergent medical services within the applicable Scope of Practice, of the AOCP (Alberta Occupational Competency Profile) determined by the Alberta College of Paramedics, within the medical control of the HSE Medical Director, utilizing the HSE Medical Control Guidelines
•Arrange for, coordinate or provide if required the safe and prompt transport to an AHS recognized Health Care Facility
•Identify the need for, facilitate the process of an aeromedical evacuation if required
•Be responsible for any required fire suppression duties necessary to save life and property Combat, extinguish and/or prevent fires by rapidly and efficiently performing varied duties as required under emergency conditions
•Be responsible for daily assignments, station maintenance, upkeep and service of firefighting equipment and any HSE Integrated Ltd. vehicles, and property
•Be responsible for upgrading and maintaining skills/knowledge to current standards
•Participate in training opportunities to be proficient, knowledgeable and up to date with respect to equipment and procedures for firefighting, medical and other emergencies
•Perform fire extinguisher inspections throughout the entire facility on a monthly basis
•Participate in daily tailgate meetings and hazard assessment processes
•Conduct other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor
•Perform pre / post trip equipment inspections and provide additional written service requests that detail problems and / or required repairs
•Operate company vehicles in a professional manner, in accordance to HSE policy, highway traffic laws and any rules of operation in effect on privately owned roads

Safety Responsibilities:
•Conduct and document pre-job hazard assessments
•Report all incidents and submit documentation in accordance to HSE policies
•Participate in incident review meetings as directed by the immediate supervisor in the interest of communicating root causes and preventative measures


Position Requirements

•Firefighter training must meet NFPA 1001 Standards
•Valid Class 3 driver’s license with Q Endorsement
•ACP Registered - EMT-P (Paramedic)
•Possess a fundamental understanding of interior and exterior firefighting strategies and tactics,
•Must be capable of operating fire pumps and all associated appliances
•Requires experience in the use of breathing apparatus, gas detection equipment and thermal imaging equipment
•Trained in high hazard operations that include, but not limited to advanced interior firefighting procedures
•Ability to read and write English, communicate instructions and procedures and respond to inquiries in a professional manner

• Petroleum Safety Training / CSTS
• Fire Pump Operator Training
• NAPD – Emergency Vehicle Operations
• Mobile Equipment Guiding

Physical Demands:
•Talk, hear, taste or smell
•Have visual abilities that include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. In addition, the individual’s vision must be adequate to perform inspections and work with hand tools while using breathing apparatus without corrective lenses or with the provision of specialty lenses
•Frequently lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/ or move up to 100 pounds.
•Frequently walk, sit, stand and reach with hands and arms, climb or balance 

Work Environment:
•The work Environment is variable due to extreme wet, cold, hot and dry conditions
•Hazardous conditions associated Class A,B & C fires, toxic and / or explosive mixtures of hydrocarbon gases and liquids
•High ambient noise levels
•Airborne particles such as dust, particulate matter and byproducts of combustion
•Moving equipment
•High volume water streams
•High pressure pumping equipment
