Job Summary


The Industrial Primary Care Paramedic/Firefighter will provide firefighting, fire protection, immediate Basic Life Support (BLS) medical care and emergency response services as directed by HSE. They provide care when summoned without delay, properly triage, advise and/or arrange for timely transport to a health care facility as needed.

This position is a 7 on 7 off camp role. Flights and all required bunker gear will be provided. This oppertunity is a 6 month project that can potentially lead to long term work. Work is located on a major producers oil and gas facility.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Act in a professional manner that ensures the patient's dignity, safety, privacy, confidentiality, and decision-making are maintained
  • Ensures effective emergency response by providing professional application of skills and techniques at the emergency scene
  • Be Prepared to respond at a moment's notice 24 hours a day while on shift
  • Provide immediate and professional medical care to injured workers on-site, and to arrange timely transport to the nearest medical care facility
  • Direct firefighting activities for the provision of safe egress of personnel, controlling hazardous conditions and extinguishing fire in the event of an emergency
  • Provide fire suppression to non-production infrastructures
  • Conduct fire protection services in accordance to standard operational procedures.
  • Perform general maintenance on fire apparatus and appliances as required by the preventative maintenance program, under the guidance and direction of the Fleet Manager or a designate
  • Work within the PCP scope of practice determined by the National Occupational Competency Profile (NOCP), utilizing the DXP | HSE medical control guidelines
  • Participate in training opportunities in order to maintain proficiency and knowledge, with respect to equipment and procedures
  • Perform clerical duties as required
  • Develop, support and maintain team environment
  • Follow the direction(s) of site captain(s) to ensure daily tasks are completed and health & safety individually and the team during an emergency

Employees Safety Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and comply with DXP | HSE safety and medical services policies, Workplace Scope of Practice Guidelines, Medical Control Guidelines, as well as all applicable government laws and regulations.
  • Take reasonable care to use safety and personal protective equipment as required by health and safety legislation and company policies and procedures
  • Report to HSE supervision and management immediately any incident or condition believed to be hazardous to worker's health or safety
  • Operate vehicles in a professional manner under client, HSE, Local/Federal laws, and any rules of operation in effect on privately owned roads
  • Refuse the work if danger is imminent or not controlled

Required Qualifications

  • Previous industrial medical experience is an asset
  • Previous BLS experience is preferred
  • Physically capable of performing the following tasks:
    • Lifting up to 75lbs
    • Pushing / pulling (patients / objects)
    • Sitting / driving
    • Bending / kneeling / crouching
    • Working in adverse weather environments (heat / cold) and conditions (rain / wind / snow)
    • Potential shift lengths 10 - 12 hours, should be available to work longer if client requirements demand longer shifts or schedule changes
    • Must be fit for duty at all times

Required Certifications & Training

  • Current (unrestricted) ACP registration with the applicable provincial licensing body
  • NFPA I & II and NFPA 472 certifications
  • HCP BLS Level 'C'
  • H2S Alive
  • Valid, unrestricted license with full driving privileges in the province of issue for the specified class of vehicle to be operated on behalf of the company or a higher class of license than that of the vehicle to be operated. (Class 3 driver's license with airbrake endrosement)
  • HSE Driving program
  • HSE Orientation
  • HSE Respiratory Protection
  • HSE Gas Detection
  • Petroleum Safety Training (PST) & Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)
  • CSO
  • Fire Extinguisher Level I

*Additional training and certifications may be necessary to meet client specifications.

 
Position Requirements
  • NFPA 1001 level 1 & 2 certifications
  • Current, unrestricted, registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • All standard field level tickets (current): H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, CSTS, Confined Space Entry (OSSA preferred), Fall Protection (OSSA preferred)
  • Previous industrial firefighting experience and/or professional fire training in accordance with NFPA standards
  • Previous in-field medic experience
  • All applicants must have previous driving experience with a valid Class 3Q (or equivalent) driver’s license
  • Previous oil and gas/industrial experience is an asset
