About the Program:

The Infant Botulism Treatment and Prevention Program (IBTPP), located within the California Department of Public Health, is the developer and sole distributor of the orphan drug Botulism Immune Globulin Intravenous (Human) (BabyBIG®).  BabyBIG® is the only treatment available for the orphan (rare) disease known as infant botulism.  The IBTPP is established as a fee-supported, special fund activity for the State of California.  Our team consists of a small, dynamic group of professionals dedicated to improving the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of infant botulism and related disorders.  Additional program information may be found at:

About the Position:

The Orphan Drug Research Assistant (ODRA) role contributes to the creation of new knowledge of the IBTPP by obtaining and data-base organizing primary medical and fiscal records of patients with infant botulism.  The position within the IBTPP provides an opportunity for involvement with a multidisciplinary medical and public health research team that does orphan drug development and distribution, molecular biology, epidemiology, microbiology, and regulatory (FDA) affairs. The ODRA contributes to the administrative and epidemiology aspects of the program, and provides “front line” service both to external callers and our staff.  We are seeking a person whose long-term interests are in medicine, medical research and/or public health.  The ideal candidate should have approximately 1-2 years of business office experience (part-time is acceptable) that includes general office functions and dealing with the public or outside liaisons by phone.  This role requires handling the office independently at times. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially by phone, and be able to effectively multi-task in a fast paced environment.  The position will be located in the Richmond Marina Bay area (off of I-580, free BART shuttle service available).
