The Public Health Foundation Enterprises, Inc. and the Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Prevention and Control Services Section of the San Francisco Department of Public Health invite applications for a part-time hourly as needed, Outreach Coordinator to work approximately 20-30 hours per week for a women’s reproductive health study (BRAVO). 

Under supervision of the Study Coordinator, the Outreach Coordinator will have primary responsibility for day-to-day recruitment activities, interviewing and retaining study participants, and developing new innovative recruitment strategies for a randomized controlled trial of treatment of asymptomatic BV infection in young women to assess its impact on subsequent STDs.


  • Conducting outreach activities to recruit potential participants into the study
  • Inform participants about the research study
  • Obtain informed consent and baseline measures from participants
  • Correspond with subjects via phone, mail, and email and maintain subject contact records
  • Maintain contact with study participants to maximize study retention
  • Coordinate unscheduled study visits or treatment visits for study participants
  • Collect study relevant data: coordinating laboratory specimen collection, processing and shipping to central laboratory
  • Track and reconcile study related supplies; track study visits and subject payments
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Position Requirements


  • Previous experience  conducting outreach/recruitment activities
  • Ability to review study protocol and apply operational knowledge for study conduct oversight
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to handle multiple and competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse races, genders, ethnicities, ages, and orientations in a multicultural environment
  • Computer skills with word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems
  • Able to function independently within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Ability to follow strict research protocol guidelines
  • Ability to adapt to new procedures


  • One year of experience in public health or operations research preferred
  • Knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures related to protection of human subjects and confidentiality (including CFR, GCP and ICH guidelines) preferred
  • Previous  research experience preferred
  • Strong interest in women’s reproductive Health
  • Experience with culturally, economically and racially diverse populations
  • Comfort with discussing sexual behavior and HIV transmission risks with young women and persons of color
  • Knowledge of WORD and EXCEL
